During a virtual conference for the upcoming return of GMA Network’s reality singing competition for kids, Centerstage, host Alden Richards shared how he started his journey to stardom.
According to Alden, he wouldn’t be the Alden Richards that we know of if not because of his adviser during his second year in high school.
Apparently, the celebrity host was forced by his adviser to enter the Mr. and Ms.Intramurals 2006 at his school. He was even threatened that his grades will be at risk if he refused. That is why he agreed to be a contestant.
“Actually ang pinakauna ko talagang competition is when I was in second year high school. Pinilit lang ako ng adviser ko to join. Kasi kapag hindi hindi ako sumali, eh put at risk daw ang grades ko sa kanya. So parang I didn’t have a choice,” said Alden.
However, he was thankful for his adviser. Alden believed that his adviser pushed him to come out of his comfort zone. With him winning said pageant, he was able to gain confidence. Fast forward to this day, the actor is now one of the most successful individuals in the industry.
“But I’m grateful for that experience kasi yun ang nag-open sa akin na talagang to really have confidence sa pagsali, to believe in yourself. And sa awa naman ng Diyos, nanalo naman tayo. So sometimes kailangan mo ng mga tamang tao para magpush sa’yo to do better. You know, to find your inner confidence para malaman mo sa sarili mo na worth it ka pala,” added the actor.
Watch out for Alden Richards as he hosts, together with Betong Sumaya, the returning Centerstage this February 7. Pops Fernandez, Aicelle Santos, and Mel Villena will be the show’s judges. What’s more exciting is that on February 28, the network is about to make a “grand reveal” for the show, so stay tuned.
