Following a year of alleged silent ban from his home network ABS-CBN, singer Bugoy Drilon got emotional as It’s Showtime! family welcomed him back on Wednesday, February 10.
To recall, his relationship with ABS-CBN was exposed to risk when his name was involved in a video released and posted by co-singer Daryl Ong last June 2020.
Ong described on his YouTube vlog the circumstances that cost him and Drilon to leave their jobs from the Kapamilya network.
The singers were initially discussing market stock investments until Drilon showed an online petition supporting ABS’CBN’s franchise renewal to Ong. He said that it only needed sixty thousand additional signatures to reach its one million targets.
However, Ong counteracted Drilon saying that the petition can’t reach the one million target as it only had sixty thousand signatures yet at that time.
He also mentioned that they didn’t know their conversation was secretly recorded by the person who was sitting beside them at their table. His harmless comment from the recording reached one of the ABS-CBN executives that prompted their eventual ban from all Kapamilya events and programs.
However, Drilon later clarified that he was just dragged into the said issue and that Ong had cleared it on his video.
On Wednesday, the singer could no longer hide his emotions and found himself in tears as he expressed that he missed his co-Kapamilya stars so much.
The hosts cheered at his reveal as he was the mystery celebrity singer in the Hide and Sing segment of the Kapamilya noontime show.
“Hello Madlang people, I miss you all. I’m so happy to be here po and to see all of you,” Drilon greeted.
Celebrity TAGOhula and co-stars of Four Sisters Before the Wedding Belle Mariano and Gillian Vicencio successfully guessed on Drilon as the celebrity TagoKanta despite the singer misleading them by changing his singing voice.
Shortly before the singer was in tears, host Kim Chiu asked him about how he felt to be back on It’s Showtime! stage.
“Sobrang happy ko po. Sa sobrang happy ko po, naiyak na ako. Na miss ko po kayo. Sobrang thank you.”
“Sobrang nanginginig talaga ako kanina. Gusto kong mag-lie para mahirapan sila pero hindi ko talaga magawang mag-lie. Ang hirap talaga pala ng Hide and Sing. Salamat po sa inyong lahat. It’s really nice po to be back.”
“Ang saya, nandidito ka ulit!” Vice Ganda said as she joined other hosts in their warm welcome for Drilon.
Drilon is from Camarines Sur and pursued his sining career in Metro Manila after joining Pinoy Dream Academy and was awarded as the second Star Dreamer.
He was known for his hit OPM song Paano Na Kaya and his viral version of Matisyahu‘s One Day.
He, along co-singers Daryl Ong and Michael Pangilinan or BuDaKhel as their group name, found work elsewhere after the forced shutdown of ABS-CBN.
On GMA’s Eat Bulaga and TV5’s now-defunct Sunday Noontime Live were among other shows they made guest appearances.
