The writer of the gag show ‘Sunday Kada‘ Josel Garlitos clarified that the reason for the show’s short-lived airtime is because it was only supposed to be a season-ender show.
The show airs on the TV5 network and is produced by Brighlight Productions which is owned by former Rep. Albee Benitez.
In a now-deleted post, Sunday ‘Kada‘s writer Josel Garlitos reiterated on his Twitter account that the show is just a season-ender slamming the rumors that their show was a flop.
“Season ender lang po kami! Tuloy-tuloy pa ang #SundayKada!” he wrote.
However, some netizens noted that the show was canceled because it garnered poor ratings for the TV5 network. People said that the statement saying that the show ended because it was just a ‘season-ender’ was just a cover-up for the show being a flop.
According to an article by PEP, Benitez released an official statement on January 16 saying that “Sunday ‘Kada” will air its final episode on January 17 along with the Sunday variety show “Sunday Noontime Live.”
The statement mentioned that the said shows are just “season enders” which explained why the shows ended not long after since it premiered. Both the shows premiered on TV5 on October 18, 2020.
The statement mentioned that Sunday ‘Kada “will explore new locales, exciting locations and more laughs in the near future.”
“We are grateful for all your support which inspires us to create new and exciting programs. Brighter days continue as we collaborate with TV5 and other industry partners,” the statement added.
Sunday ‘Kada’s cast involved Jayson Gainza, Ritz Azul, Josh Colet, Sunshine Garcia, Wacky Kiray, Daniel Matsunaga, Maxine Medina, Miles Ocampo, Badji Mortiz, and Jerome Ponce.
It can be noted that the casts of Sunday ‘Kada like Jayson Gainza and Ritz Azul were originally from the now-defunct ABS-CBN gag show Banana Sundae. Sunday ‘Kada served as the successor of Banana Sundae when the latter ended in April 2020.
