Former sexy star Rosanna “Osang” Roces revealed that there was a point in her career that people looked down on her because of her previous movies. The actress said that it was hard for her to have serious drama films or shows because people would judge her based on her past films as a sexy actress.
Osang is one of the main characters in the upcoming film “Paglaki Ko, Gusto ko Maging Pornstar” along with Alma Moreno, Ara Mina, and Maui Taylor.
According to an article by Bandera, Osang mentioned that one of the stigmas as a sexy star comes from inside the showbiz industry itself. She said that people in showbiz would often look down on her talent in acting just because she was known as a sexy star.
She said that the stigma made her shift to having heavy drama roles difficult as her acting was often overlooked by people.
“Pinakamahirap na stigma sa showbiz ay ‘yung nasa loob na rin ng showbiz (nagmula). Parang sinasabing, ‘ay wala namang alam gawin ‘yan kundi maghubad.’ So naging mahirap para sa akin sa pagtawid (drama roles) lalo na pag awards night, magaling ka naman pero hindi ka pananalunin kasi sexy star ka lang,” she said in an interview for their film.
Osang explained that with regards to her personal relationships, she didn’t encounter judgment from people as much as she did from the showbiz industry people. She said that she would simply ignore other people’s judgment of her.
“Laging ganu’n kaya ang hirap bago ka nakatawid sa pagiging serious actress. Sa relasyon wala namang problema sa akin kasi very strong ang personality ko, so hindi pa ako nakarinig ng salita na hindi ko magugustuhan dahil parang tatamaan ka na,” she said.
“Nakakarinig ako ng hindi maganda sa loob ng showbiz mismo, pero sa labas may pangilan-ngilan puwede ng palampasin. ‘Yung kasamahan mo sa industriya ang lalait sa ‘yo, puwede na ring palampasin,” Osang added.
Osang also recalled her experience in showbiz where her senior in the industry indirectly bashed her. She said that the senior questioned her on why she had a one-on-one interview even though all she did was show her body on screen.
“Mas senior sa akin na sinabi (sa talk show) na bakit daw ako ini-interview ng one-on-one, bakit daw sila nu’ng in-interview magkakasama. Bakit daw ako binibigyan ng ganu’n spot, e, wala naman ginawa ‘yan kundi bumukaka. Ganu’n ‘yung term niya na tinandaan ko talaga. Parang siya lang ‘yung magaling?” she stated.
Osang told the senior off saying, “Nu’ng nakarating sa akin ‘yung sinabi niya, dinaanan ko sinabi ko sa harap niya, ‘pasensya ka, panahon ko ngayon!’”
Rosanna Roces was known to be a sexy star in the 90s until she starred in the critically acclaimed film Ligaya Ang Itawag Mo Sa Akin (1997) by Reyna Films, which paved her way for into “serious acting”.
Her upcoming film “Paglaki Ko, Gusto Kong Maging Pornstar” is directed by Darryl Yap and produced by Viva Films and VinCentiments. It will premiere on January 29, 2021 and will be made available via VivaMax with a paying price of P149.
