PBB housemates Crismar Menchavez and Russu Laurente gained social media attention recently after admitting that they once supported the call for ABS-CBN shutdown.
The two housemates became hot topics online particularly on Twitter when they confessed to previously favoring the #YestoASBCBNShutdown trend.
“Both Crismar and Russu have no business to be in @PBBabscbn. They have proven that their ill-informed stand is based on a one-sided narrative. Russu’s family said #NoToABSCBNShutDown but he was for it,” said @biensays.

During the New Year’s episode of PBB connect, both Menchavez and Laurente confessed and apologized to Big Brother for their support in shutting down ABS-CBN.
According to Crismar, while he never posted it publicly, “Humingi po talaga ako ng tawad Kuya kasi alam ko once in my life, parang I don’t care na maikling time lang ‘yun na nag-agree ako, but I did agree, sa thought ko na nag-yes ako sa thought ko, kahit hindi ko siya pinost or everything but I agreed to the shutdown and I am ashamed of it and I’m sorry po talaga, Kuya.”
Big Brother accepted Crismar’s apology and said that he’s now part of the family.
‘Yung mga panahon na ‘yun, ‘yon ay hindi naging madali sa akin. ‘Yun ay isang madilim na pagkakataon at pangyayari sa buhay ng Kapamilya. Pero ito ay pamilya na bahagi ka na. Tinatanggap ko ang paghingi mo ng pagpapatawad,” Kuya said.
Russu, on the other hand, also apologized for publicly calling for the ABS-CBN shutdown. According to Russu, he was just influenced by his friends who were all for the shutdown of the Kapamilya network without realizing the bigger impact of it on the lives of many people who depend on the broadcast company for livelihood.
“Alam ko po Kuya na nasaktan po kayo na minsan po isa rin ako sa mga sumang-ayon sa pagpapasara ng iyong tahanan. Nung mga panahong hindi ko pa alam ‘yung mga nangyayari, ‘yung mga totoong nangyayari po sa likod ng mga nakikita ko po, Kuya. I’m sorry po Kuya kung nasaktan ko po kayo at ‘yung pamilya po ng ABS-CBN,” Laurente said.
Like Crismar, Kuya also accepted Russu’s apology saying people should be not judged and be defined by their past mistakes. He also called Russu part of the family already, that’s why he’s accepting his humility to ask for forgiveness.
“Tulad nga nang sinabi ko Russu at palagi kong sinasabi, hindi dapat nagiging basehan ang ating nakaraan para manghusga ng pagkatao at sa pag-ako ng pagkakamali natin, iwan na natin ang mga pagkakamaling ito. Nawa’y lahat tayo may matingnan na bagong kinabukasan sa bagong tao na ito.
At Russu, sa pagbatikos mo, sa pagsuporta sa pag-shutdown ng tahanang ito, tinatanggap ko ang pagpapakumbaba mo. Kahit ganon ‘yung nangyari, naging bahagi ka na rin ng pamilya ito,” Big Brother stressed.
Meanwhile, Netizens had mixed reactions regarding the housemates’ revelations.

Netizen @friennyhalaman shared how misinformation and propaganda influenced Crismar and Russu with their previous stand against the renewal of ABS-CBN franchise.

@Kowalerts (Kapamilya Online World) on the other hand, thanked the two housemates for admitting and asking an apology for previously supporting ABS-CBN shutdown but at the same time saying they will never forget.
