President Rodrigo Duterte has vowed to give justice to the death of flight attendant Christine Dacera.
According to Palace spokesman Harry Roque, Duterte promised to bring justice to the family of Christine who was found dead in a Makati hotel on January 1.
“Ang pangako naman po ng Presidente ay makakamit po ang katarungan sa pamilyang Dacera,” said Roque during Malacanang press briefing on Thursday, January 7.
“Malalaman po natin ang katotohanan,” he added
This came after Christine’s mother Sharon called on the President and his daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte to help their family find justice for the death of Christine.
“Patuloy lang ‘yung laban. Hindi ko titigilan habang hindi napaparusahan ‘yung gumawa sa anak ko. Tatay Digong, kailangan ko po kayo sa laban na ito,” she said in her statement which trended on social media. “‘Tay… I need more prayers, but ‘yung kamay na bakal para sa mga taong gumawa nang ganito karumal-dumal sa anak ko po, Tatay, parusahan niyo na po. Parusahan niyo na po,” said Sharon Dacera.
Meanwhile, the mother of one of the accused, veteran singer and also known Duterte supporter Claire dela Fuente also asked the help of Duterte for a fair trial.
Dela Fuente’s son Gigo De Guzman was one of those companions of Christine at the hotel who was named a suspect in her death.
Claire, in an interview with ABS-CBN News, pleaded for Duterte’s help saying her son is innocent.
“As a mother, umaapela rin ako sa ating Pangulong Duterte. Alam kong walang kasalanan ang anak ko.
“Humihingi ako ng tulong sa Presidente na sana magkaroon ng fair investigation para maprotektahan din ang mga karapatan ng mga inosente! We also want the truth to come out as soon as possible!” dela Fuente said.
Meanwhile, the Makati prosecutor’s office has ordered the release of the 3 suspects saying there’s no sufficient evidence to indict the suspects. Instead, the state prosecutor moved to start a regular preliminary investigation to gather more evidence.
“After a thorough examination of the evidence presented on inquest, this office finds that there are certain matters that need to be clarified to determine the participation and culpability of each respondent for the alleged rape and killing of … Dacera,” the prosecutors said.
“At this point, the pieces of evidence so far submitted are insufficient to establish that she was sexually assaulted or raped. And if sexual assault/rape was committed, who is/are the person/s responsible?” they added.
