Actress Jasmine Curtis-Smith expressed her concern regarding the police not doing their job to protect the citizens.
According to the actress’ tweet, instead of doing their “to serve and to protect”, the police causes fear, anger, outrage, and disappointment.
These people who are supposed to make us feel safe and protected have been causing us way too much fear, anger, outrage and DISAPPOINTMENT. There is so much heaviness in everyone's hearts because loved ones are lost along the way and then disrespected even when they've passed on.

This was due to a series of incompetent actions and misplaced fulfillment of duty done by the Philippine National Police.
Cop killing two civilians
Last year, December 21, a cop named Jonel Nuezca killed two innocent civilians, a mother and her son, after an altercation between them happened. Nuezca shot 52-year-old Sonya Gregorio and her son 25-year-old Frank Gregorio in the head because of a simple right-of-way dispute and the use of a PVC or boga.
Wrongly accused
Last January 2, a construction worker was gunned down in Brgy. San Matias, Pampanga after a police officer mistakenly identified him as a robber. The officer was in pursuit of a suspect involved in a robbery-holdup case and the assailant’s description fit the construction worker’s.
The incompetence of the police
And now, with the death of Christine Dacera, a flight attendant, who was found dead in a bathtub in a Makati City hotel, police have concluded that it was a rape-slay case. Even though there was no enough evidence, PNP released incomplete information to the public, causing misconception on what was the initial cause of death by the victim.
Second was when they concluded that the case is ‘solved’ even if only 3 out of 12 suspects were in their custody. Many have questioned how it was considered to be solved. PNP explained through a Facebook post presenting the elements that the mystery behind Dacera’s death is finally answered.
The elements were:
- The offender has been identified;
- There is sufficient evidence to charge him;
- The offender has been taken into custody and;
- The offender has been charged before the prosecutor’s office or court of appropriate jurisdiction.
However, there is still doubt that the victim’s death is really because of a rape-slay.
Third, Makati chief of police Harold Depositar disrespected the LGBTQ community because of his perception. In an interview, he said that despite being gay, they are still men, and will heed to the call of flesh once intoxicated.
“Ang mga bakla, lalaki pa rin sila. May instinct yan, lalo at may impluwensya nang intoxicating alcohol,” said Depositar.
And finally, PNP Debold Sinas insisted that there is really rape and he was sure of it. They also charged the 3 apprehended suspects with rape with murder, despite uncertainties that there was really one.
“I think there’s really rape. ‘Yung babae, with bruises, confirmed lacerations tapos may fluid sa private parts niya… It really happened,” he said.
However, the result of the autopsy revealed that the cause of Dacera’s death was a ruptured aortic aneurysm.
With the police making accusations on the death of Dacera without any certainty, netizens fear that they themselves would one day become victims of baseless accusations.
