Considering the non-renewal of the ABS-CBN franchise, will former Kapuso hunk Aljur Abrenica return to GMA?
On December 28, Aljur Abrenica had a guest appearance in Eat Bulaga’s ‘Bawal Judgmental’ segment, three years after leaving GMA Network.
His guesting has drawn questions from netizens, speculating that he is bound to return as a Kapuso after the shutdown of ABS-CBN.

Abrenica launched his career in Starstruck Season 4 where he was hailed as the Ultimate Hunk.
He starred in several projects under the Kapuso network including ‘Zaido: Pulis Pangkalawakan’ and ‘Machete’. His projects molded him to be one of GMA’s male lead stars.
Despite this, he filed a petition against the GMA network to terminate his contract. He said that his career plans do not meet with the network’s plans for him. It was resolved hereafter but he was released in 2017, after the expiration of his contract.
He then moved to ABS-CBN where he was warmly welcomed and was offered different projects like FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano, Asintado, and Sandugo. He also appeared in Kapamilya shows Maalaala Mo Kaya, Ipaglaban mo, and ASAP.
However, when the issue on the non-renewal of the ABS-CBN’s franchise sparked, Abrenica disappointed Kapamilya supporters and fellow celebrities because of his statement regarding the issue.
He said that though he is pro-franchise, he prefers not to meddle with the network’s battle.
“Hindi naman sa hindi ako vocal. Actually, pro-franchise po ako. Siyempre, [ABS-CBN is] my mother network now. Marami rin silang naitulong sa akin. Pero it’s beyond me. Ibig kong sabihin, their fight is their fight,” he said.
Liza Soberano, a fellow Kapamilya artist, also reacted to this insensitive statement of Abrenica.
Ouch.
