In light of President Rodrigo Duterte’s recent sexist remark highlighting his disapproval of women running for the presidency, many netizens chided the president through social media.

Among these is the actress Angelica Panganiban.

On her Twitter account, she posted that she chooses a woman who acts like a president, implying her possible support for Vice President Leni Robredo, highlighting the VP’s responses during the COVID-19 pandemic and calamities.

Dun ako sa acting president na BABAE.

— Angelica Panganiban (@angelica_114) January 14, 2021

Thursday, January 14, 2020, President Rodrigo Duterte remarked that women should not lead the country, refuting rumors that his daughter Mayor Sarah Duterte had a possible stake in the 2022 presidential elections.

Throughout his presidency, Pres. Duterte has earned flak over his sexist and misogynistic remarks or actions. Among these were his insensitive remarks targeting women and enabling rape culture.

Before 2020, Angelica was an avid supporter of Pres. Duterte. During the 2016 elections, she even expressed her support for his presidential campaign. However, Angelica expressed her regret for supporting Pres. Duterte.

Some attribute it to the myriad of failures from Pres. Duterte’s administration. From the attacks on press freedom, ABS-CBN shutdown, politicizing the COVID-19 pandemic, and lack of response during calamities. Angelica used her social media platform to express her opinions on said social issues.

Here are some of her previous tweets:

Ano ng plano? Tulog na lang? Kilos kilos naman para sa sinumpaan para sa bayan at mga pilipino…

Grabe na din. Pati streaming gusto na pakelaman. Papatayin niyo na talaga ang industriya. Inuna niyo ang free tv. Bukas pag gising natin, north korea na to.

— Angelica Panganiban (@angelica_114) September 4, 2020

Ayusin niyo ang pandemya utang na loob. Hindi ba kayo kinikilabutan sa dami ng may sakit? Marami na ang namatay sa EJK, dadagdagan niyo pa ng covid? Kailan kayo titigil?

— Angelica Panganiban (@angelica_114) July 17, 2020

Yes. Nakakalungkot. Pero oo. Patawarin niyo ko.
