Beginning Monday (January 18), witness the most sensational rivalry between friends-turned-mortal enemies from two different regions as GMA Network’s well-loved TV adaptation of the hit 1984 movie by Regal Films ‘Anak Ni Waray Vs. Anak Ni Biday’ returns on the primetime block.
After several months of hiatus due to the pandemic, the powerhouse cast offer their loyal fans and followers a recap of the heartwarming series which they have consistently followed since its pilot airing. Meanwhile, its much-awaited all-new episodes are set to air starting February 8.
Anak Ni Waray Vs. Anak Ni Biday follows the whirlwind relationship between friends-turned-mortal enemies Amy (Snooky Serna), the Waray from Leyte, and Sussie (Dina Bonnevie), the Biday from Ilocos. Their seemingly inseparable bond is jeopardized when the dashing Joaquin (Jay Manalo) captures the hearts of both women. Several years passed, Amy’s daughter Ginalyn (Barbie Forteza) and Sussie’s daughter Caitlyn (Kate Valdez), who are actually half-sisters and were switched at birth by a twist of fate, chance upon one another and ironically become good friends. Just as Amy and Sussie thought they have left their past behind; history repeats itself when their daughters fall for the charming city boy Cocoy (Migo Adecer).
When the truth about their mothers’ feud comes out, will the budding friendship of Ginalyn and Caitlyn also be put to the test? And with Joaquin’s comeback, will peace ever exist between the families of the Bidays and Warays?
As the series airs anew, the cast members expressed what they think about returning on air, how they feel about working in the new normal, and what’s in store for the Kapuso viewers in the coming episodes.
Barbie reveals feeling nostalgic and excited with the return of the series, “Nede-déjà vu nga po ako dahil this time last year, nag-launch ang show namin. I feel very excited because I get to watch the show again ang reminisce about the good memories we had behind the scenes.”
Migo, in turn, is nervous yet thrilled to be back on air, “I’m nervous and excited because it’s been a while before I’d started taping again. I was scared na baka hindi pareho ‘yung acting skills ko noong nag-start kami mag-taping before the lockdown. At the same time, I’m very excited how the audience will react and take our teleserye.”
On the one hand, Kate teases viewers on what to expect in the new episodes, “Abangan po nila ang status ng friendship nina Caitlyn at Ginalyn. Maayos pa kaya ni Cocoy ang pagkasira ng friendship nilang dalawa? Handa na bang magpatawad si Sussie?”
“Abangan nila ang mga kwentong kaibigan, mag-ina, hiwalayan, selosan, pigil na pag-ibig, kulitan, bangayan dahil may konting comedy din sa mga dialogue. Siyempre may iyakan din dahil sa mga nasirang pagkakaibigan at pagkaka-ibigan,” shares Dina.
Meanwhile, Snooky shares her experience working in the new normal, “Noong una, nakakapanibago at nakakakaba but in the long run, it turned out to be a good experience kasi nagkaroon ng bonding among the cast. We also were very well taken care of by our Kapuso network. I enjoyed doing the lock-in taping.”
“The challenge is how will you cope with the changes such as staying and working at one location; from time to time, may health workers na nagche-check sa’yo; awareness of wearing face masks all the time; and bringing your own alcohol. We also have our different places so no tsismisan pero masaya dahil maaga kami natatapos,” adds Jay.
This original series, created by the GMA Entertainment Group, is headed by the SVP for Entertainment Group Lilybeth G. Rasonable, VP for Drama Redgie A. Magno, AVP for Drama Cheryl Ching-Sy, Senior Program Manager Camille Hermoso-Hafezan, and Executive Producer Arlene Pilapil.
