Actor Alex Medina reacted to the news that the Philippines’ gross domestic product (GDP) in 2020 shrunk to 9.5%.
On his Twitter account, Alex posted retweeted a post from a news source. After that, Alex blamed the government and criticized apologists who claimed that the government has no accountability for the economic setback.

According to the latest figures announced by Philippine Statistics Authority, the 9.5% GDP was the worst dip in the economy since World War II, backed by PSA’s record data since 1947. Additionally, it was the first GDP drop, since 1998 which had a 0.5% dip.
Understandably, the COVID-19 pandemic had a massive economic impact. For several months now, businesses in the country have been struggling to keep their doors open, with several industries succumbing to the toll of the quarantine guidelines.
Now, the mitigation of the COVID-19 virus should be the current focus to ensure that we can zero the active cases in the country. However, one could argue that it would have been much better if the government’s response to the pandemic had the same urgency as other countries like New Zealand, Vietnam, and Taiwan.
Sadly, our leaders had misplaced priorities during the pandemic, such as the ABS-CBN Shutdown, Manila Bay White Sands Project, and internal power struggle in the lower chambers. If only people in power had listened to officials pushing for immediate action, such as imposing a strict travel ban back in January of 2020, we would have fared a better chance, economically, during the pandemic.
