Despite suffering from the pandemic and from Congress shutting it down in 2020, ABS-CBN continues to grow with the network expanding its reach.
Many Kapamilyas felt the weight of losing one of the media giants in the Philippines responsible for both entertainment and news throughout the country when the network went off the air last May 5, 2020.
However, ABS-CBN rose above the crisis and seized the opportunity to shift to digital platforms and cable TV. To date, ABS-CBN has 32 million subscribers, while ABS-CBN News has 11.5 Million subscribers on YouTube. They also have over 27 million followers and 21 million likes on Facebook. They also made the Kapamilya channel on Cable TV to continue releasing content for their Kapamilya audiences.
After that, ABS-CBN merged their TFC and iWant TV, creating their app for overseas Filipino workers and local audiences, the iWantTFC.
But the network did not stop there. A few months after they went off the air, ABS-CBN made a block time deal with Zoe TV and produced A2Z Channel 11. It resulted in their triumphant free TV return.
And now, this 2021, speculations that the ABS-CBN Network will continue to expand with Kapamilya shows airing on TV5. If plans remain the same, TV5 will air ASAP Natin ‘To in place of Sunday Noontime Live starting this January 24, 2021.
Earlier, Star Magic Head and Entertainment Head Director Laurenti Dyogi revealed that Brightlight productions and Star Magic have an upcoming partnership this 2021.
Aside from ASAP Natin ‘To, speculations that Your Face Sounds Familiar will also air on TV5, among other possible TV programs.
Despite their possible deal with TV5, Kapamilya shows will remain airing on A2Z Channel 11.
