In September, Romy released her debut solo single, “Lifetime”. Combining Romy’s love of yearning, emotional club music and timeless songwriting (having written songs for the likes of Dua Lipa and Mark Ronson in addition to co-writing The xx’s three acclaimed albums), “Lifetime” is an exhilarating piece of warm, club-influenced pop about “being totally lost in the moment and celebrating it”; a timely moment of escapism that hints towards Romy’s love of club classics, Ibiza house and trance.
Praise for “Lifetime” has been universal, with i-D Magazine describing it as “a stunning return to music” and The Sunday Times as “a celebration of life, love and friendship, this heady, pulsating debut single from the xx singer plugs you straight into the emotional mains”. Meanwhile The Face described it as “a warm blast of dance-pop euphoria that might just mend your heart”, Wonderland declared it “the song of the year” and The Guardian featured it in their top 20 songs of the year, stating “Lifetime finds comfort in club pop’s revivifying powers and life-enhancing potential in Madley Croft’s reminder to seize the moment, to stay open to the wonder that instils those powerful memories.”
Today – Wednesday 2nd December – Romy releases a collection of personally curated “Lifetime” remixes. Featuring some of Romy’s favourite artists in the world right now, the collection sees “Lifetime” heading even deeper into the club. The remixes come from an all female and non-binary line up of Jayda G (fresh from a GRAMMY nomination for “Both Of Us”), Australian-born, London-based DJ and artist (and 2019 BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix of the Year winner) HAAi and Manchester breakout star Anz alongside the previously-announced remix from Planningtorock, who stretch and meld the original into a variety of stunning dancefloor directions.
Available digitally from today, a 12” vinyl version is also available to pre-order ahead of a 2021 release. Download, stream and pre-order the 12” vinyl.
