From the accuser, now the accused.
ACT-CIS Rep. Eric Yap and a known anti-ABS-CBN franchise lawmaker was one of the congressmen named by President Rodrigo Duterte as part of the list being investigated by the Presidential Anti Corruption Commission.
During his weekly late-night public address, Duterte bared the names of some house solons who according to him are involved in DPWH corruption.
“The public should be aware that there is no hard evidence, that it cannot be translated by just reading the names that they are already guilty because presumption of innocence would like all throughout until conviction or acquittal.
“I just want to assure everybody that yung pagbasa sa pangalan ninyo is a condemnation or indictment that you are guilty of something… Do not take it as gospel truth,” Duterte said
Yap is a known ally of the President and his administration. He’s a self-confessed best friend of Duterte’s son and Davao City Cong. Paolo Duterte.
His ties with the Dutertes even made him one of the primary oppositors of the ABS-CBN franchise for alleged bias reporting especially against Pulong and the first family.
During the franchise hearing, Yap was one of those loud voices opposing the Kapamilya network’s franchise application even though all government agencies invited at the hearing cleared ABS-CBN of all the allegations against them. Prior to the voting, Yap also claimed that he was bribed by an ABS-CBN emissary to vote in favor of the network.
He however quickly retracted his statements after getting social media backlash and belatedly claimed that the person who allegedly bribed him might just be using the name of ABS-CBN.
With this latest bomb from Duterte, is this Yap’s karma for being an administration puppet in Congress? Let’s just see how this story unfolds.
