With most of its employees being retrenched after being denied a franchise, you would think ABS-CBN’s Christmas Station ID would be full of anger and resentment because of this.
However, nothing in the song “Ikaw ang Liwanag at Ligaya” showed any such negativity.
Some employees of ABS-CBN were surprised by the message of the song. The only thoughts that they could think of is that the Kapamilya network is all about love.
Kapamilya journalist Jeck Batallones thought that the theme of the song would be about ABS-CBN. But he was surprised that the network didn’t do that. For him it was about the true essence of Christmas—sharing the love to everyone.
He tweeted, “I love how this year’s Christmas Station ID resisted the urge to make the theme about ABS-CBN. They could’ve easily gone that route and be predictable but they didn’t, because Christmas is not about us but you Kapamilya.”

ABS-CBN Promotion Specialist Mark Raywin Tome had no idea how the network was able to come up with a beautiful song. But one thing he is sure of, it is about the stories of downfalls, joy, kindness, and ‘bayanihan’. He is just grateful for the network for standing up even if this year has been unkind to the media giant.
Kinakaya, kakayanin!”

Journalist Anjo Bagaoisan felt that this year, the bosses of ABS-CBN singing alongside its artists and employees meant that they are thankful for those who stayed and fought the trials that the network faced.
He tweeted, “Madalas sa dulo ng mga station ID nakikita ang mga pinakaprominenteng personalidad ng network. I’d like to think seeing our 3 leaders with our artists was a stand-in for the Kapamilya employees they stood & fought for this past year. Salamat, mga boss.”

Even those who were retrenched were still proud that they were Kapamilyas. The strength to overcome adversities of ABS-CBN was greatly appreciated.
#IkawAngLiwanagAtLigaya.”

The hope that the song brings inspired employees to keep on praying that everything will be better. For journalist Kevin Manalo, the song is about the difficulties and the memories that this year would forever haunt those who work in ABS-CBN.
He wrote, “Dilim at kalungkutan best describe the difficult year we went through. We felt so down, so anxious as we lost our dreams and bread and butter for years, even decades. We must not forget how we lost them too, in the middle of a world crisis, a pandemic. #IkawAngLiwanagAtLigaya.”

As of this moment, the music video of “Ikaw ang Liwanag at Ligaya” have reached 2.2 million views on YouTube while its lyric video is now at 5.7 million views.
The song tells the story of Filipinos who were affected by this year’s tragedies. The pandemic, the disasters were all devastating. But the song not only tells that sad story. It also conveyed that despite everything, there will always be hope and love. The miracles that people experienced and the power of Christmas to unite everyone was also one of the main points of the song.
