Philippine Cinema’s Superstar may be tired of playing the protagonist in movies.

Veteran actress Nora Aunor is now open to venture into other roles besides playing the leading actress. Producer Joed Serrano cast the Superstar as an antagonist for an upcoming movie titled, ‘Kontrabida’ to which he said that the actress is very open about.

For the seasoned actress, this will be the first movie where she’ll play a role where she’s the evil one.

According to Serrano, Aunor is still thinking about whether to accept the project since it was first given to Vilma Santos, the Star for All Seasons. She said will look into the script first but said she’s okay playing the villain.

The Superstar has made over 180 films in her entire career. She already explored different genres such as musical, comedy, romantic comedy, romance, love story, drama, biographical, film noir, action, thriller, horror, and art films. In her films, she has always played the lead role and never the antagonist.

Her 1980 movie ‘Bona‘ where she played an obsessed fan of an actor played by Philip Salvador was one of her most memorable roles. This film, which was made by Lino Brocka was considered to be one of the Philippines’ greatest movies. It was shown at the Cannes International Film Festival and in 1997 was recognized by the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles, USA as one of “The Best 100 Films in the World.”

Probably one of the best movies that showcased the actress’ talent in acting was her movie in 1982 titled, ‘Himala’. Through this movie, she garnered various recognitions from different award-giving bodies inside and outside the country. The movie won the 1982 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) Best Actress, Best Director, and Best Picture awards. That same year, the Catholic Mass Media Awards (CMMA) also gave the film recognition.

In 2008, CNN considered the film as the best Asia-Pacific movie of all time.

This also led the birth of the famous line from the movie, “Walang himala!”

Aunor’s 1995 movie ‘Flor Contemplacion Story’ is about devout mother Flor Contemplacion who was hanged in Singapore after being accused of killing another maid and the child she was taking care of.

The movie won several awards inside and outside the country. It was even showed at the Human Rights Watch International Film Festival in New York.
