Most of us have prepared our wish lists. Some may want simple gifts, gadgets, big dreams, or even world peace.
But keeping 2020 in mind, here are our 12 wishes for the coming 2021.
End of Pandemic
Firstly, we wish for the pandemic to end and for us to return to our pre-pandemic lives since all of us had to put our lives on pause to keep ourselves and others safe. Hopefully, our government officials and the global community can finally sort out the distribution of vaccines so that we can be one step closer to ending the pandemic.
ABS-CBN Franchise Renewal
Secondly, ABS-CBN Shutdown shifted the landscape of the entertainment industry. Many businesses, artists, employees, and even government agencies correlated with the media giant suffered losses this 2020 after Congress denied their franchise. Hopefully, lawmakers saw the impact of losing one of its big players in the entertainment industry. Additionally, we hope that Congress reconsider the franchise renewal since ABS-CBN proved they didn’t commit violations.
End Red-tagging
Third, we also wish local law enforcement arms to end their red-tagging as it poses dangers to civilians. Earlier this month, we heard the news of killings of red-tagged individuals. Even though the gunmen remain unidentified, many speculated that the killing correlates to their red-tagged status. Additionally, celebrities also suffered the red-tagging frenzy amongst local government officials such as Angel Locsin, Catriona Gray, and Liza Soberano, who became fearful for their safety.
Stronger Internet Connection
Fourth, we wish for a stronger internet connection in the Philippines. Reliable internet coverage benefits many Filipinos, such as students and content creators who rely on stable internet services amidst the lockdowns.
Responsible Dissemination of Information
Fifth, we wish that people online would have a sense of responsibility when spreading accurate and truthful information. We wish for an end to the spread of fake news as it creates a divide amongst citizens. We also hope that people rely on factual information as it can help save lives.
Sensitivity for Online Communities in Social Media
Sixth, we wish for online communities to practice sensitivity when posting on social media. Insensitive remarks often cause divided statements that may hurt people in more ways than one.
Promotion of Diversity in TV and Film
Seventh, we wish for diversity in the local TV and Film industry. We hope for a better representation among LGBTQIA+, ethnic, religious, and cultural characters. The proper portrayal of everyday lives better reflects the stories of each and everyone in the country. It also helps achieve a better understanding of each and everyone’s struggles and motivations.
Change in Local Dramas
Eighth, we wish for a change in the storytelling and narrative of local dramas. We wish to break stereotypes, clichés, and tropes that have grown problematic over time. The Philippines deserves dramas that thought-provoking storylines and shed light on social issues.
Local Content reaching the Global Community
Ninth, we wish for award-winning local shows and movies to break through to the global community and gain the recognition they deserve. Like the Korean movie, Parasite, Filipinos have exceptional filmmakers that can produce quality and world-class content.
Return of Showbiz Events without Network Wars
Tenth, we wish for the return of showbiz events without the network wars. We wish for events like Star Olympics or Star Magic Ball but includes everyone working in the entertainment industry.
End of Piracy
Eleventh, we wish for the end of piracy in the country. It saddens us that even if the contents are already in free digital platforms like YouTube and iWantTV, most shows still have their intellectual properties stolen from them because of piracy.
End of Impunity
Finally, we wish for an end to impunity. Like most celebrities, we want to hold those who committed grievous crimes and violations accountable for their actions. We hope that the government promotes a fair justice system that does not favor alliances and opposition.
