With the news of the killing Sonya and Frank Anthony Gregorio, committed by Police Staff Sergeant Jonel Nuezca in Paniqui, Tarlac, in broad daylight on December 20, celebrities and personalities expressed their outrage over the crime. Among these celebrities is actress Jennylyn Mercado.
On her twitter account, Mercado posted a series of tweets expressing her disgust.
Firstly, she asked how can someone forget being human.
How can some people forget how to be human?

She then cited the multiple murder charges against Nuezca and slammed the statement saying it’s an ‘isolated incident.’
Mercado also pointed out what would have happened with no video as proof of the crime.
“Existing Homicide Charges”- pero hinayaan maghawak ng baril.
“One in 2019 and one last May”-isolated incident daw.Nakakatakot isipin pero paano kung walang video? https://t.co/Bs5xZW32hu

Then, she added her thoughts on raising children to make the world less cruel and heartless, hinting at the murder since Nuezca shot the victims in front of his child.
“It’s not our job to toughen our children up to face a cruel and heartless world.
It’s our job to raise children who will make the world a little less cruel and heartless.”-L.R. Knost

Then she posted about police accountability, cited the lack of body cams and video evidence against police brutality. She also felt saddened that citizens now only have phone cameras as protection from similar crimes.
Kung walang video na nakunan malalaman ba ng lahat ang tunay na nangyari?
Magkakaroon ba ng ebidensya laban sa mali?
Tapos wala pang body cam ang mga pulisNakakalungkot na our phones are now our source of protection from incidents like this
Paano yung mga hindi nakunan? https://t.co/ZE2yAKH2t5

Finally, Mercado expressed her disappointment over the new normal that includes police brutality.
Nakakalungkot na kasama na eto sa ating “new normal”. https://t.co/femb1bzvGJ

Before the shooting, Nuezca has over six cases filed against him. These included two homicide cases, both from 2019 in May and in December, respectively. Sadly, both cases got dismissed over lack of evidence. The recorded altercation serves as proof of solidifying the case against him.
In related news, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) director Police Major Gen. Debold Sinas committed quarantine violations with the proof circling the Internet. However, rather than reprimanding Sinas, President Rodrigo Duterte appointed him as the new chief of Philippine National Police.
