With the recent births this 2020, bizarre diets among parents started to gain popularity. Among them are Coleen Garcia, Paolo Contis, and Jennica Garcia-Uytingco.
After giving birth to baby Amari, Coleen revealed that her Doula Irina Otmakhova saved the baby’s placenta and added it into her fruit smoothie.
Billy Crawford said that it helped Coleen heal quickly. Aside from that, they also encapsulated other parts of the placenta into jewelry as memorabilia.
Additionally, in 2018 Jennica had a similar experience wherein her husband Alwyn Uytingco gave her a fruit smoothie with her placenta blended into it.
Multiple online websites claim the benefits of eating the placenta after birth or placentophagy.
They claim that ingesting or consuming the placenta helps to ward off anemia, increase breast milk supply, balance hormones, and lower chances of post-partum depression.
However, according to Fiona Ford, a dietitian for the British Dietetic Association, “There is no scientific evidence at all for any of the supposed benefits of eating placenta, whether whole or in capsule form. The placenta is full of vitamins, but there’s no guarantee that – even though they’re in large amounts – they’re going to the right place and doing the right job.”
Another example of a bizarre celebrity diet after birth is Paolo’s breast milk drink. In 2019, Paolo posted a video wherein his wife, LJ Reyes, was looking for her breast pump only to find out that Paolo already downed the breast milk.
Although the post seemed nothing but a skit, LJ posted an Instagram story sharing that Paolo drank a full baby bottle of her breast milk.
