In a press conference, Representative and Former House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano said that he remained a fan of actress Angel Locsin despite their differences.
Rep. Cayetano initially said that he had been a fan of the actress even before he got to know her. He also added that he was able to know Locsin in person because of her fiancé Neil Arce who is their close family friend.
“Gan’on din for Angel. I’ve always been a fan. Nung hindi ko pa sya kilala. Nung nakilala ko sya, fan pa rin ako. Noong naging fiancé nya si Neil na family friend namin, nanay at tatay, happy kami,” said Cayetano.
He then added that he was not happy that they were on opposing sides during the ABS-CBN franchise renewal. He also added that he respects the actress and supports her activism. Cayetano also said that he was not patronizing anyone in terms of where they stand on the issue.
“So happy ba ko na magkabilang side kami? Hindi. But do I respect her? Yes. Do I support her activism? Yes. Mag-kaiba man pananaw namin sa isyu pero napaka-impokrito ko naman kung sabihin ko sayo maging active kayo. Tapos nung magkaiba tayo ng stand, sabihin ko mali ginagawa mo. Di ba?” said Cayetano.
Cayetano led the congress during the ABS-CBN franchise renewal hearings that resulted in the network’s shutdown. Angel, on the other hand, joined the rallies of artists and employees of the network to have the network’s franchise renewed.
Additionally, Rep. Lito Atienza and Rep. Edcel Lagman blamed Cayetano for delaying the hearings for the franchise renewal of the network that has been pending since 2014. They also added that Cayetano failed to do his job while he was a House Speaker.
