Angel Locsin expresses concern about children’s perception of policemen

With the recent killings that happened in Tarlac, many people have really shown their fear towards the ones who ought to protect them, namely the police.

Last December 20, Senior Master Sergeant Jonel Nuezca gunned down a mother and his son in Purok 2, Barangay Cabayaoasan, Paniqui, Tarlac.

The suspect shot and killed Sonya Gregorio and her son Frank Anthony because of a simple altercation. It stemmed when the policeman got angry because of a PVC cannon or boga which was shot by the Gregorio family.

As a result of such horrifying incident, many Filipinos, including celebrities were outraged by the incident of police brutality.

Angel Locsin, who is very vocal against injustices, reminded cops to condemn corrupt police and to always remember their motto which is “To Protect and to Serve”.

Good cops should condemn bad cops.

Remember the motto, #ToProtectAndToServe

Despite being angered by the killings, Angel showed her concern over the deteriorating image of Philippine National Police (PNP) as perceived by Filipinos especially the young ones.

On her Twitter account, she posted a video wherein a contestant from ‘It’s Showtime‘ segment of ‘Mini Me’ viewed cops to be trigger happy.

The child who perceived that policemen were killers eventually became a meme. However, he only stated the truth as cases of killer cops ballooned when Duterte became the president.

Many incidents involved cops shooting a suspect because they ‘resisted arrest’ or ‘nanlaban’ have greatly increased. Most of these cases arose during President Duterte’s War on Drugs Campaign where 27,000+ were killed.

The perception of Filipinos and children that cops are killers was due to the fact that the PNP has instilled such a view. It is hard for people to just look away when the cops who should protect the citizens were becoming murderers.
