Kapamilya actress and philanthropist Angel Locsin disclosed the real reason she and fiance Neil Arce started their YouTube channel.
In an interview with DJ Jhai Ho on the online talk show We Rise Together, Angel shared that they started vlogging to help the retrenched Kapamilya employees.
“Nagkaroon ng retrenchment sa ABS-CBN, inisip namin, ‘Bakit hindi tayo gumawa ng vlog para mabigyan natin ng trabaho yung mga nawalan ng trabaho, kahit paano ay makapag-provide tayo?’
“So doon kami nagsimula,” said Angel.
ABS-CBN made its mass layoff on August 31 following the network’s shutdown and franchise rejection on July 10.
Angel and Neil started their YouTube channel on September 20.
Meanwhile, aside from helping the retrenched workers, Angel shared that their YouTube channel also aims to spread awareness on how to help and be of service to other people.
“Para magamit mo rin yung platform mo to raise awareness or makapag-give back din sa mga tao,” Angel added.
Angel has been known for her charity work whenever the country is facing a crisis.
From Ondoy, Marawi Siege, Yolanda, COVID-19 crisis, and the recent back to back typhoons Ulysses and Rolly, Angel has tirelessly worked to help affected families.
During the interview, Angel also shared that doing all those efforts are just part of her civic duty to help her countrymen in need.
“I’m just doing my part. Yun lang naman talaga yun,”
“I’m sure lahat ng mga nandito ay ginawa rin naman nila yung part nila bilang isang Pilipino, bilang isang kapwa,” patuloy ni Angel.
“Iba tayong mga Pilipino, iba tayo magbayanihan.
“So bilang isang Pilipino, ginagawa ko lang din yung parte ko.
“At sana ma-inspire din yung ibang tao na gawin din ang parte nila,” Angel narrated.
And because of her humanitarian efforts, Angel was named as one of the 30 outstanding altruists in Asia-Pacific at the 13th annual Heroes of Philanthropy list by Forbes Magazine.
According to the write-up, Angel was hailed for her contribution to the victims of the Marawi Siege in Mindanao.
“Locsin, whose mother was adopted by a family from the island, has long helped the region, which has been riven by sectarian strife for decades.
“Over the past decade, Locsin has donated as much as 15 million pesos to causes such as educational scholarships for students, supporting the economic and political rights of indigenous people, and ending violence against women and children,” the global magazine said.
