With most of the country still in some form of a lockdown because of the pandemic, Filipinos turned to other things to help them be occupied. Some may have focused on vlogging, while others became engrossed with the app TikTok.
Some celebrities took to these social media platforms and managed to do well. Here are just some of them.
YouTube Stars
Just like Alex Gonzaga who rose to fame as a celebrity but eventually found her passion as a vlogger, these celebrities turned to vlogging during this pandemic. Alex who is now an internet personality channels her true self via her YouTube channel which has over 9.16 million subscribers.
Ivana Alawi
This beautiful actress is a newcomer at ABS-CBN and has 10.1 million followers on YouTube. She rose to fame through her daily vlogs doing household chores such as cooking, doing laundry, and many more.
What’s special about her is that she has the ability to entertain—the reason why she’s so popular in the streaming platform. She’s not afraid to reveal her true self in front of the camera and is pretty much into everything.
Vice Ganda
The It’s Showtime host has become a powerful source of entertainment through his stand-up routines, especially during this pandemic where everyone is stressed. Vice Ganda never fails to produce laughter from his audience. He is also into vlogging and his channel has 3.74 million followers.
He is also vocal when it comes to helping those who were in need. During the Typhoon Ulysses onslaught, Vice orchestrated a relief drive in order to help those who fell victim to the typhoon’s assault.
Vice also is the top 3 Most Famous Celebrities in the video-sharing app TikTok where he sits at the top spot together with Andrea Brillantes who is currently the number 1 most followed celebrity this 2020.
Kathryn Bernardo
Last January 3, Kathryn announced that she joined the vlogging community. On her YouTube channel which has over 2.59 million subscribers, she shares glimpses into her personal life.
Kathryn is among the top Pinay personalities across social media platforms including Instagram and Twitter.
Kim Chiu
Kim started vlogging way back in 2017 to give fans a steady stream of behind-the-scenes footage of what she’s like off-camera. She became the talk on social media because of her iconic “bawal lumabas” statement which she turned into a song. She was able to handle all criticisms thrown at her and rise above it. This year, she became the new host of It’s Showtime and also reached 2 million subscribers on her YouTube channel.
Liza Soberano
Liza Soberano recently just started joined the YouTube community as a vlogger on her channel called “Life with Liza”. As soon as she announced this over her Instagram account, she became a trending topic on Twitter. Her YouTube channel currently has 1.18 million subscribers.
When she’s not doing any projects or vlogs, she organizes fundraising projects to help those affected by the pandemic. She is also vocal when it comes to women’s rights. It can also be recalled that she, along with Angel Locsin and Catriona Gray were red-tagged by the Army Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
Barbie Forteza
The Kapuso Primetime Princess is also a vlogger with over 1.08 million subscribers. She’s not just good at acting but also good at giving advice. Recently, she uploaded the first episode on her vlog series called “Deal with Barbie” where she gives her fans advice whether it be about relationships or about life.
Bea Alonzo
The actress is really confused about the meaning of vlogging. In one recent upload, she sits down with internet personality Mimiyuuuh and admitted that she had no idea how to vlog. However, she is doing something right as she has 822K subscribers on her YouTube channel.
Dingdong Dantes
The Kapuso Primetime King has a YouTube channel dedicated to his family. He also went into producing short films through his channel called “The Dantes Squad”. Dingdong recently released a series on his channel titled, “Jose en Maria”. With a subscriber count of 776K, his followers can watch he and his wife Marian Rivera produce mini-series.
Robi Domingo
The PBB: Connect host recently reached 700K subscribers on YouTube. Netizens were quick to congratulate him stating that he should be among those vloggers to follow because of his content. Currently, he has over 769K subscribers. Domingo will also be the host of the upcoming remake of the hit game show Game KNB?
Julia Barretto
After a year of deciding whether to pursue vlogging, Julia have finally decided to also join Liza Soberano as she also created her own YouTube channel. She currently has 735K subscribers and her videos are about anything under the sun.
Catriona Gray
The 2018 Miss Universe trended when she was red-tagged by the AFP. However, Catriona stood her ground and took the AFP to task for the baseless accusation.
She also has a YouTube channel with 532K subscribers. She uploads vlogs and cover songs together with her boyfriend Sam Milby.
Angel Locsin
Angel Locsin may be the most vocal celebrity as she constantly fights for what is right. During the franchise troubles of ABS-CBN, Angel was among those who led protests regarding the government’s decision to shut down the network. She was also targeted by the AFP and has been red-tagged for being vocal when it comes to her good-governance advocacy.
Angel was also very active when it comes to helping those who need help like those affected by the Taal eruption and typhoon victims.
She also admitted that she started vlogging so that she can help those retrenched employees of the Kapamilya network. Her YouTube channel with her fiancé Niel Arce is about spreading awareness when it comes to helping people. Her channel has 200K subscribers.
Paolo Ballesteros
The Eat Bulaga host designed the national costume of Honey Grace Cartasano whom he was training for the Binibining Pilipinas 2020 pageant.
Paolo has 174K subscribers on YouTube. His channel is about make-up tutorials and transformations.
TikTok stars
With the pandemic, most people have run to the TikTok app to fight off the boredom that they experience during the quarantine. Recently, TikTok PH released a list of the most viewed celebrities on the app.
Andrea Brillantes
Andrea Brillantes has really established her presence on the social media platform. This year, she was named the Most Popular Celebrity on the video-sharing platform TikTok. She bested Sanya Lopez by garnering 8.7 million followers with 52.6 million likes.
Sanya Lopez
Sanya has been named the second Most Popular Celebrity on TikTok. The First Yaya lead actress amassed 6 million followersand has 32 million likes for her videos which are mostly viral dance challenges.
One of her most viewed videos shows her using a hand sanitizer as a mic and doing the “Calling the attention of my crush” trend.
Sofia Pablo
GMA actress Sofia Pablo became one of TikTok’s Most Popular Celebrities earning the 4th spot with 5.1 million followers and 27.8 million likes. The young actress already had 1 million followers during the start of 2020 and now that the year is about to end, she had garnered 4 million more.
Her most trending TikTok video was with Allen Ansay which has earned 7.3 million views and 500,000 likes.
Jodi Sta. Maria
Jodi Sta. Maria was named the 5th Most Popular Celebrity on the app. She has 4.6 million followers with over 14.8 million likes. Her videos consist of her doing different viral challenges.
Maja Salvador
Maja took the 6th spot as the Most Popular Celebrity on the app as she earned a follower of 4.6 million followers with 14.9 million likes. Her most trending video was with her boyfriend Rambo Nunez.
Heart Evangelista
Heart shared through TikTok how she coped up with the pandemic during the lockdown period. However, she took it to a new level as she posted a TikTok video where she changes outfits, not just once or twice, but eleven times! She garnered 3.8 million followers with 27.8 million likes. She is 9th in the list of Most Popular TikTok Celebrities.
Kyline Alcantara
Kyline gained the number 10 spot on the list of Most Popular TikTok Celebrities with over 4 million followers and 19.2 million likes.
