Horror anthologies have been rare during 2020. However, as if the pandemic isn’t enough to scare Filipinos, TV5 brought back “Kagat ng Dilim”.
The series started way back in 2000. 20 years later, the same horror series is up to scare its viewers with the help of critically-acclaimed directors.
Directors Richard Somes, Lawrence Fajardo, Paul Basinilio, and Rae Red bring different episodes with different levels of fright.
The first episode, “Hukay”, starred Cristine Reyes as Maya who travels to the isolated town of San Malverde to do some family business. However, she stumbles upon a tunnel, which is believed to be a gateway to hell.
“Hukay” was directed by Fajardo which, through his brilliance as a director, built up the suspense in such a way that viewers were hooked from start to finish. He will also direct “14th Floor” starring Kim Molina,\ and “Toktok” where Mccoy de Leon, Julian Trono, Carlyn Ocampo, and Aubrey Caraan will be part of the cast.
Meanwhile, for the second episode titled “Binabahayan”, Natalie Hart plays Carmen, a scammer who hides in an old house while waiting for her boss. She finds a locked room, decides to open it, and chaos starts.
This episode is directed by Richard Somes, the man behind the success of “Yanggaw” at the Cinema One Originals Digital Film Festival, where Somes was recognized as the best director. He was also known for his works “Cry No Fear” and “Corazon: Unang Aswang”. Somes will also direct “Hinagpis” with Ella Cruz, and “Taglugar” starring Cindy Miranda.
Paul Basinilio is up for the episodes “Ukay-Ukay”, “Pugot”, and “Pagpag”. Meg Imperial, Diego Loyzaga, and Jerald Napoles, respectively.
The director is known for being an accomplished concert director but who knew he could do jump-scares as well.
