November 12th sees DJ, producer, singer and songwriter Goldhouse offer up his rework of ‘Big World’ – the hit single from rising Australian quartet MOBS.
Since the release of their debut EP Bad Love in 2017, MOBS have gone from strength to strength, touring alongside the likes of With Confidence and Deaf Havana, performing at festivals around the world (including the UK’s The Great Escape), and building up a loyal fanbase that extends far beyond the sunny beaches of Melbourne, Australia.
The band continued this fine form with the release of debut album Cinema Paradiso earlier this year. The LP features a collection of songs paying homage to the group’s favourite 1980’s classic films, and on the bouncy, synth-laded song “Big World”, MOBS drew inspiration from the iconic movie Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.
Now, the group have enlisted esteemed DJ/producer Goldhouse to rework the track, who utilises the original’s upbeat, retro-tinted sonic palette and expands this into a fully-fledged, euphoric disco offering.
“We were in lockdown with COVID and decided to bring a different energy to a collective favourite song off the album, which is when Goldhouse entered the picture”, explains bassist Scott MacDougall. “We loved the work he did for Billie Eilish’s ‘Ocean Eyes’ and thought that Goldhouse’s producing talent could bring a different groove to the work we did on that song. This upbeat rework got us dancing in a different way to ‘Big World’ and we hope it has the same effect on you.”
Chicago’s Goldhouse is best known for his hooky, dance-orientated, electronic-based pop. Aside from his solo projects, he’s also delivered a plethora of celebrated remixes including atmospheric takes on Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me” and Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams”.
