Kapuso actress and TV host Gabbi Garcia is a proud morena and she loves her skin tone.
Although she admitted that being a morena was, at a time, a problem for her. She was insecure with all the other girls who were mestiza. But as time went by, she learned to love her complexion and now has made her own name in the showbiz industry.
With all the projects and endorsements that she’s done, it’s a question what are the moments that made her love her own skin.
In an interview for her youth-oriented program In Real Life, Gabbi shared her experiences as a morena celebrity are indeed satisfying.
For her, 2017 was the year that her skin color was really appreciated. She recalled that being a cover girl for the prestigious Preview magazine was eye-opening for her.
“Nagkaron ako ng isang magazine cover for PREVIEW. It’s titled ‘Golden’. And sa Summit Media din, Preview,” she said.
Another achievement was when she became the first Filipina to ever become a global endorser for Pantene. She joined Selena Gomez, Ronda Rousey, Ellie Goulding, and Giselle Bundchen as celebrity endorsers of the international shampoo brand.
“When I became the global endorser for Pantene, this brand, this shampoo brand this 2017,” Gabbi said. She also added, “Inintroduce ako doon as Filipina and talagang inembrace nila kung ano ang features ng isang Filipina.”
Gabbi admitted that it felt like her breakthrough year was 2017. For her, it was during that time that she really grew as an artist, that she felt accepted being one.
“Actually parang breakthrough year ko si 2017… so yun ata yung pinaka unang beses na feel na feel kong tinanggap ako ng industriya na morena ako,” Gabbi said referring to her Preview magazine stint.
But what makes the morena host feel so appreciated and thankful for her skin is when people started messaging her, thanking her, for inspiring those with a similar complexion to love themselves.
Aside from becoming an accomplished host, Gabbi also dreamed of joining beauty pageants. She confessed that it was her childhood dream, that she would beg her parents to stay up late so that she could watch beauty contests. However, it’s not possible at the moment since she is currently under contract to numerous brands.
“Dream ko sya actually. But then, nag-iba yung universe ng direksyon para sakin eh. At 15 I started showbiz. Until now I’m still in showbiz and for you to enter a pageant dapat wala kang contract sa kahit anong… brand, with the network or anything. And at this stage of my life it is so hard to give up,” said Gabbi.
