Several Filipino journalists have taken note of Joe Biden team’s view of the media’s role in democracy.
In subsequent tweets, several Pinoy journalists can’t help but aspire to how US news networks uphold their roles as the fourth estate.
In his tweet, Barnaby Lo called the attention of Filipinos who seemed to have forgotten the real role of media in our society.

ABS-CBN North America Bureau chief TJ Manatoc also reminded people about the role of media in a democracy and hope that it will be the way anywhere in the world.
“And that’s how it should be anywhere in the world Media’s role in a Democracy is – hold elected officials accountable”

The journalists’ tweets came after Biden’s team vowed to be collaborative of the works of the media which are to hold public officials accountable.
In a CNN interview with Brian Stelter, Biden Campaign Team’s National Press Secretary TJ Ducklo said the Biden administration is expected to welcome the relationship of the White House with the press.
According to Ducklo, Biden believes that the media’s job is to hold him accountable and that the president-elect acknowledges the media’s valuable role in their democracy.
“President-elect Biden believes that the media’s job is to hold him accountable. He is there to do the people’s work. And, you know, he welcomes that relationship. He welcomes their role, the media’s role in our democracy,” said Ducklo.
Meanwhile, aside from Lo and Manotoc, Kapamilya journalist Jeff Canoy also reacted to Ducklo’s interview.

US media has always been bold and unafraid to call out government officials.
Just recently, several US news outlets decided to cut off their coverage of outgoing US President Donald Trump’s speech because of the obvious lies and misinformation he is spreading.
Trump was cut off by ABC News, CBS News, and NBC News for claiming fraud and cheating in the election.
During their coverage, NBC News Anchor Brian Williams can’t help but share his exasperation saying, “Here we are again in the unusual position of not only interrupting the president of the United States but correcting the president of the United States.”
