The “King of Talk” Boy Abunda had a virtual conversation with Kapamilya actor John Lloyd Cruz recently.
In his interview which lasted for about 40 minutes, the 37-year-old actor opened up about various topics about his life including being burned out and how happy he is to have a two-year-old son.
The interview was held over Kumu, via the FYE Channel, and was posted on Facebook and YouTube.
The famous host expressed his gladness for having a chance to talk with the actor and stream their conversation online amidst the current situation brought by the pandemic.
“Sobra lang akong masaya at nagkaroon tayo ng pagkakataon na ganito,” he told Cruz.
The actor took an indefinite leave of absence in 2017. He then explained his reason for leaving the limelight and the network grind. Cruz said that being an artist is a demanding job as it took most of his time.
Gradually, Cruz admitted that he felt he was falling short of the industry’s expectations of him as an actor.
“Nakakaubos iyong dine-demand ng ganitong trabaho,” he said of being an actor.
“And bilang creator gusto mong makapagbigay lagi ng something worth their time. And kung ubos ka, medyo mahihirapan kang ma-deliver iyon kasi wala nang bagong laman iyong utak mo — wala ka nang maibibigay na tingin ko is worth their time. Kumbaga nakakahiya na lang din.”
The actor showed no regrets over taking a hiatus and said that he cannot exactly describe why he felt it was the right thing to do at the time.
Cruz was asked whether he’s “happy” to which he replied that he has never been so happy now that he has Elias, his son with Ellen Adarna.
He said: “Wala na yatang mas liligaya pa pagkamayroon kang maliit na anak, na two years old na ang kulit. Wala nang kasing saya. Ang lupet. My little savior.”
Cruz also talked about his upcoming movie with Lav Diaz, Servando Magdamag, an adaptation of an award-winning short story written by Ricky Lee.

The release date of the film was not yet announced though Cruz teased that they are now almost finished with the shooting.
Cruz said he felt humbled by making this film which showed him the history of Filipino violence in the country.
“Karahasan, kasamaan —wala ka pa pa lang nakita, wala ka pa palang alam,” he said.
Rumors about his upcoming film surfaced even before the pandemic started. The pandemic, along with ABS-CBN’s shutdown, halted the production of the film.
His new film is considered as his comeback project after he left showbiz to have a normal life with Adarna, his girlfriend at that time. In 2019, they broke up but they share custody of their son.
During his showbiz break, he did a cameo in Culion, as well as some commercials.
