The women of the upcoming project #Influencers break barriers in the storytelling of the Boys Love genre sweeping the country.
Stars of the series Em Meneses and Maz Esquivel said that the series will not only feature the typical BL tropes but will give women the voice they need to tell their own stories alongside BL love teams.
Firstly, Meneses said that the series came as a surprise to her but appreciates the writing of the series.
“It was surprising nga in the first place that the production approached me. I was like cool sure game, what project is it? It was like ‘BL’ Huh’? Ah okay okay, sige ako yung best friend. Tapos supporting you know basically like flat is fine. But then I was surprised nga. More than just more screentime, I really appreciate how much the writers put into the experience,” said Meneses.
She then added how all of the 8 featured cast members of the BL project received their own stories with real emotions and stakes.
“It was really interesting for the producers and the writers to put 7 to 8 people and give them all full-blown stories with full real emotions. Real stakes,” said Meneses.
Esquivel on the other hand pointed out the typical tropes found in the BL series today and thanked the showrunners for giving voice to women in the BL genre.
“For me kasi, di ba always kasi sa BL series, either parang ex-girlfriend ng lead or ally, best friend. What I love about our series is finally a BL series giving voice to women. We’re not just the best friend, we’re not just an ally. We are also part of the community, we also have stories to share,” said Esquivel.
#Influencers written by Stephanie-Rose Quiros and directed by Renz-Bhil Tugelida will have an advance screening this November 18, 2020. Tickets are already on sale starting November 9, 2020.
