AnaKalusugan Partylist Representative Michael ‘Mike’ Defensor reacted to the ABS-CBN shows airing on Zoe TV via their block time deal.
He said that he doesn’t have a problem with the return of the media giant to free TV since it will be through a block time deal with Zoe TV. He also clarified that ABS-CBN is not using Zoe TV’s franchise since they will be airing programs through a block time deal.
“I have no problem with that. Kasi ito naman magiging block time ang arrangement nila jan, it is not the utilization of the franchise. It is the franchise of Zoe and they are buying into it,” said Rep. Defensor.
Rep. Defensor also added that its well in the right of ABS-CBN to make block time deals.
“So, ABS-CBN is still a corporation and it is well in their right to do so, so I have no problem with that,” said Rep. Defensor.

Rep. Defensor is one of the five representatives who were instrumental in ABS-CBN’s franchise denial. He defended the decision of Congress to deny the network from renewing its franchise despite the network submitting the renewal request back in 2014.
During the congressional hearing of ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal, the subject of block time deals was brought up by Congress questioning the legality of the practice.
Kapisanan ng Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) defended block time deals saying that it has been standard practice in the country.
ABS-CBN CEO and president Carlo Katigbak also cited examples of block time deals of other networks such as GMA7 with Television and Production Exponents Inc. (TAPE Inc) for the longest-running noontime show Eat Bulaga.
