Several artists like Jasmine Curtis-Smith, Agot Isidro, and Kakie Pangilinan took to social media to express their opinion regarding the statement of Lieutenant General Antonio Parlade Jr to Kapamilya Star Liza Soberano in connection to the young actress’ involvement with the women’s group Gabriela Youth.
Liza was one of the speakers in the webinar event of Gabriela Youth where she spoke about urging her fellow influencers to speak up on issues affecting women and children. Soberano is not a member of Gabriela and was merely invited as a speaker.
In a Facebook post of Parlade through the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) FB page, he mentioned that Liza should withdraw her support from the women’s group saying that the group has a hidden violent agenda. He also mentioned that Liza might ‘suffer the same fate’ as the deceased Josephine Anne Lapira who was an activist of the youth.

“Liza Soberano, there’ s still a chance to abdicate that group. If you don’t, you will suffer the same fate as Josephine Anne Lapira @ELLA, former Deputy Secretary General of Gabriela Youth of UP, Manila and defender of women’s rights, even against sexual predators amongst her comrades in the NPA unit she joined which is clearly stated in her handwritten letter addressed to a certain @EMIL,” he wrote.
“It’s a pity she learned about non sense things like nabbing a firearm, exploitation while already inside the underground. It was too late, she is dead,” he added.
The NTF-ELCAC is the group leading the government’s campaign against communist rebels, including its anti-communist propaganda.
The netizens were alarmed by the Parlade’s statement as they said that it sounded like the commander was threatening Liza.
Jasmine Curtis-Smith reacted to the military official’s statement via Twitter saying, “Ayan na sila.”

“#PROTECTLIZASOBERANO,” Director Antoinette Jadaone said.
Liza Soberano’s manager, Ogie Diaz, also reacted to the claimed threat of Parlade saying that the young actress was just being bashed by internet trolls.

“Hindi ito matatanggap ng mga trolls na ayaw tumanggap ng matinong paliwanag,” he said.
On the other hand, the camp of Liza Soberano denounced the red-tagging saying that Liza simply shared her own experiences in life and advocated about respecting women and children.
The young actress’ legal counsel Atty. Juanito Lim Jr. explained through a letter that Liza was apolitical with her speech in the youth.
“We denounce in the strongest terms the ‘red-tagging’ of our client, Ms. Liza Soberano, in some social media platforms. Expressing her love and respect for women and children is her personal adocacy.”
“Ms. Soberano remains to be apolitical. She does not support nor antagonize any person’s political views. The important point here is respect for others, a virtue she has conscientiously practiced all her life.”
“We, thus, call on everyone concerned to be circumspect in associating our client with their respective politics beliefs, whatever it may be,” Lim said.
