Already on its 5th year on air, FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano has undoubtedly made household names that faithful followers may never ever forget, like Carmen (Bela Padilla) and Glen (Maja Salvador), who were among titular character Cardo Dalisay’s earliest love interests in the series, before finally settling down with Alyana (Yassi Pressman).
It has introduced audiences to several child stars, including Onyok Pineda and Awra Briguela (who is already a teenager now), and has made viewers weep for the departure of beloved characters like Ryza Cenon’s Aubrey (whose death scene was among the highest-rated episodes of the series), as well as Lito Lapid’s Romulo Dumaguit, the Pulang Araw leader.
But while the demise and exit of those characters who were dear to Cardo are without question, memorable, no one is as unforgettable as those who caused Cardo Dalisay’s suffering. The deaths of Cardo’s most nefarious villains are among the most-watched moments throughout the 5-year old primetime series. We look back on those five years-from when the show started to its current season now being aired on the new Channel 11, A2Z-and came up with a list of the greatest villains Cardo has ever confronted, including the ones set to be among his greatest nemeses, yet.
Joaquin Tuazon
Joaquin was envisioned to be Cardo’s ultimate nemesis until the show got extended and he wasn’t in it anymore. His duel with Cardo, which led to his death, brought record-breaking ratings for the then two year-old show. Arjo Atayde who played the role received critical acclaim for playing the role, noting his brilliance in depicting Joaquin’s despicable wickedness with ease and believability.
Tomas Tuazon
Tomas Tuazon (Albert Martinez) was among those few great villains who made Cardo suffer much worse than many others did. He had his son Joaquin and father-in-law Don Emilio by his side to carry out all his devilish plans against Dalisay. However, those plans proved to be futile as his death was ultimately served by Cardo when they crossed paths in prison. His death scene was among the most gruesome deaths in the show’s history, with him ending up impaled through a prison metal bar.
Don Emilio Syquia
Don Emilio made Dalisay’s miserable far longer than anyone did. He had survived six seasons of the show, before finally making an exit on the show’s fourth year. Cardo Dalisay was able to finally end his viciousness by taking down the helicopter he was using to escape.
Renato Hipolito
John Arcilla was still more popularly known to local viewers as Hagorn, the main antagonist in rival network’s Encantadia, when he took the role of Renato Hipolito, in 2017, and has since then become a persistent headache to Cardo. He is now poised to outlast Don Emilio as the villain to confront Cardo Dalisay the longest. His presence on the show has sought several arrivals and exits of other antagonists, and it’s still currently under suspicion whether his much-anticipated demise will take place in the foreseeable future.
Homer “Alakdan” Adlawan
Alakdan’s death scene is considered among the most memorable in the show, having caused more than trouble than most other villains to Cardo’s family. Portrayed by Jhong Hilario, who was highly applauded for taking the role. Cardo Dalisay ended his life with a shot in the head.
Lucas Cabrera
Lucas Cabrera’s rise to Presidency was made possible by his evil orchestrations. When then President Oscar Hidalgo (Rowell Santiago) went missing, he had to take the chance of grabbing the highest the power in the land to push his wicked schemes, and he had powerful allies and equally vile henchmen, including General Terante (Soliman Cruz) and his son, Brandon (Mark Anthony Fernandez), to help him realize his plans. Cardo Dalisay and the Pulang Araw, to mind, however, were persistently present to distract him, and ultimately took him down to end his devilish deeds.
Lily Ann Cortez-Hidalgo
Lily was first projected in the show as a kind, generous woman, helping the Vendetta and their campaigns to end President Cabrera’s regime, but turned to be a villainess just waiting for her turn to do the same wickedness- or maybe worse – her predecessors did. Her aggressive and deceitful steps to get close with then-President Oscar Hidalgo, made her the First Lady of the Republic, giving her a powerful advantage to pursue her plan of amassing so much power, and thus expand the drug empire she heads across the country. Her most trusted henchman, Juan (Romnick Sarmienta) could have been a potential entry to this list, had he not departed from the show sooner than he expected. Lorna Tolentino plays the role of Lily.
Art Padua
Dreamscape Entertainment’s staple Tirso Cruz plays Executive Secretary Arturo Padua. It is still unclear what are his greatest motivations in making Cardo’s life miserable (other than Cardo has his daughter, Clarisse), but he has so far taken viciously reprehensible steps to hurt Cardo and his family. His link with the First Lady and her drug syndicate makes him a bigger threat to Dalisay, who has multiple villains to face at the same time.
While Hipolito, Lily, and Padua remain to be the biggest threats to Cardo and his family right now, the entry of the new character, Lito (Richard Gutierez) seems to present a bigger challenge to Dalisay, to his family, and to his relationship with his wife, Alyana (Yassi Pressman) whose connection with Lito goes back to their childhood. Lito’s syndicate being linked to Hipolito provides a glimpse of how extensive the operations of his crime organization is, and how abominable the devil he hides behind his angelic face. Whether he’s the one to finally bring Cardo down, remains to be seen.
