The country’s medical frontliners continue to find an ally in ABS-CBN Foundation as they tirelessly lead the nation’s fight against COVID-19.
Through the “Pantawid ng Pag-ibig: Isang Daan. Isang Pamilya.” campaign, 133 hospitals and 26 other institutions in different parts of the Philippines have already received hundreds of thousands of personal protective equipment (PPE) that healthcare workers need in combating the pandemic and in treating the sick.
These include surgical masks, N95 masks, face shields, goggles, gloves, body suits, shoe covers, as well as alcohol and rapid test kits. Apart from these much-needed medical supplies, ABS-CBN Foundation and its donors and partners also bring food items, electrolyte drinks, medicines, and flowers for our frontliners, to also give them love and care as they risk their own safety to save other people’s lives.
Recently, “Pantawid ng Pag-ibig” trooped to 16 hospitals in Metro Manila with truckloads of face masks, vitamins, and hygiene kits gathered from donations both cash and in-kind.
In an interview with ABS-CBN News that aired on “TV Patrol,” one of the beneficiaries, Dr. Maria Leonora Ulanday of Quirino Memorial Medical Center, expressed gratitude to those who are relentless in helping them fulfill their duty to the people.
“We are really thankful that there are a lot of people who support us in this journey, those who understand us, and who contribute to our needs, ‘yun ‘yung malaking tulong talaga sa ‘min. And especially ‘yung family and friends who always encourage us to go on and to fight this battle,” she said.
Among the beneficiaries of the PPE drive of “Pantawid ng Pag-ibig,” which began as early as March this year, are 96 government hospitals and 37 private hospitals. It also provided PPEs to four schools and 18 communities in NCR and different provinces.
Dr. Diana Rose Cajipe of Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital, explained why frontliners like her continue to need PPEs, especially at this time of the year.
“Lahat naman po ng ospital kailangan talaga [ng PPE]… Sa amin, mas madaming kailangan kasi ‘yung capacity and the number of patients that would come in, madami po talaga, and then ang ospital naghahanda na kasi etong BER months, whether pandemic or hindi kasi madami talaga ang dadating,” she explained in an interview with ABS-CBN News.
