Folk artist Emily Laing details the grief and pain of lost love

With a string of folk-tinged singles already in her roster, London based Emily Laing is back with her latest installment “The Wind” – a tender track reflecting on a lost love.

With a gentle finger plucked guitar melody driving the narrative forward, the stripped back production allows Emily to tell her story with refreshing candour. It’s intimate and heartfelt – making sense of the grief and pain as a romantic relationship comes to an end.

“This song exists for the person who helped me to feel real. My first true love”, Emily explains. “We listened to a lot of stories and a lot of music. I think anyone who connects to the lyrics of this song will understand why. If the melody reaches your core my heart goes out to you. Love is hard. But better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all.”

Finding fame with a song she wrote about Christopher Chope’s controversial vote in parliament regarding upskirting, the viral video went on to achieve almost 140,000 views on Twitter alone. The sharp increase of fans inspired Emily to write short songs and upload them to her social channels, connecting with fans across her musical platform.

With support from Notion, LOCK and FMS Magazine, “The Wind” showcases Emily’s ability to create songs from lived experiences – taking pain and heartbreak and transforming them into something beautiful.

“The Wind” is set for release October 2nd.
