Colombian beauty queen Ariadna Gutierrez wants to clear the air between her and 2015 Miss Universe rival Pia Wurtzbach when her statement about the latter was misunderstood by netizens.
In Ariadna’s Zoom interview on October 3, she talked about Pia saying that she didn’t notice her in the competition because Pia was like a ghost and explained that she never considered Pia as a competition.
“I actually saw her twice during the competition, once at the dining area and during rehearsals. But a person like a… a ghost! You see her and never again, like the exit signs! Nobody saw her,” she said in Spanish, as translated by the pageant website Pageanthology 101.
“I used to go with the Latinas but we sat with the Asians and I did not notice her. She was very solitary, too. I did not notice her and when I did, I did not think of her as my competition. That is the truth,” she added.
Ariadna received backlash from the people who said that she was still bitter about losing to Pia after five years. At the Miss Universe pageant held in Las Vegas, Nevada, on December 20, 2015, the host, Steve Harvey, wrongly announced Miss Universe 2015 when he called Colombia instead of the Philippines.
People said that Ariadna expressed her hatred towards Pia through her statement but the Colombian beauty queen defended herself and claimed that people simply misunderstood her.
According to an Instagram comment picked up by Pageanthology 101, Ariadna explained her statement through her reply to an Instagram user.

“I know!!! exactly what I said but [people] don’t ever understand what I said smh. Thank you for saying it HOW IT IS,” Ariadna wrote.
“I feel so sad for the super nice [Filipinos] I’ve met in my life. They are not like this,” she added.
Recently, she also posted a photo in her Instagram account along with her caption that seems to be pertaining to her recent issue saying, “Learn to use the criticism as fuel and you will never run out of energy.”

However, people, including Miss Bulgaria Radostina Todorova, still criticized her for her statements.
Through Radostina’s Instagram post, she said that a true beauty queen is a person who is beautiful inside and out.

Ariadna Gutierrez just proved that IMG MU Org made the right choice for choosing Pia Wurtzbach over her as the Miss Universe.. Ariadna didn't even deserve the first runner-up spot during that night, people expected her to be the first one to be called as 2nd runner-up.
