Kapamilya actress Iza Calzado has likened ABS-CBN to a phoenix who will rise from the ashes.
In an Instagram post, the Ang Sa Iyo ay Akin star thanked and honored those thousands of Kapamilya employees who lost their jobs due to the denial of the ABS-CBN franchise.
Iza also believed that they will all see each other in the future because like a phoenix, ABS-CBN will rise again.
“Just want to take a moment to give thanks to and honor our Kapamilyas that signed off yesterday. No goodbyes, just see you later because, like a phoenix, we will rise again.”

On Monday, August 31, thousands of ABS-CBN employees rendered their last day of work after the network enforced the painful retrenchment program brought about by the denial of its franchise.
ABS-CBN has been at the losing end after Congress’ committee on legislative franchise denied its franchise application.
On July 10, 70 congressmen allied with the Duterte administration decided not to give the Kapamilya network another chance to get back on air which resulted in the mass layoff of Kapamilya employees.
Meanwhile, prior to the denial of the franchise, ABS-CBN has started bleeding after the cease and desist order issued by the National Telecommunications Commission on May 5, 2020.
The NTC order caused ABS-CBN to shut off the broadcasting of Channel 2 and other Kapamilya-operated channels. Another blow that hit ABS-CBN equally hard was the closure of SKY Direct and their digital TV broadcasts using AMCARA’s frequency.
The subsequent closures of ABS-CBN’s broadcasting medium have resulted in the closure of the majority of its business units like the ABS-CBN Current Affairs division, ABS-CBN Sports, ABS-CBN regional network group, MOR Philippines, the Film Restoration project, ABS-CBN Philharmonic orchestra, and many other businesses which operate under the ABS-CBN Broadcasting company.
With that, ABS-CBN shifted their focus on its cable and satellite TV channel, the Kapamilya Channel, and their online streaming platform Kapamilya Online Live.
Currently, ABS-CBN’s cable channel and the online streaming platform is getting positive reactions from the viewers making them the country’s trailblazer in online broadcasting.
