During the questioning of Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary José Ruperto Martín Marfori Andanar, Representative Eric Go Yap suggested having an experienced ABS-CBN employee manage the news department of PTV4 instead of its current officer-in-charge who is a production assistant with no experience.
ABS-CBN News Reporter Anjo Bagaoisan reacted to this suggestion via Twitter.
First, Bagaoisan quoted Rep. Yap.
“Bakit di na lang natin kunin ang mga taga-ABS-CBN…” said Bagaoisan via Twitter.

Bagaoisan also noted the government would have wasted its four-year investment in PTV4 if it needed ABS-CBN out of the picture.
“Sayang naman ang 4 na taong upgrading at investment sa PTV kung kinailangan pang alisin ang isang major player just to say it will be able to ‘compete,'” Bagaoisan noted.

Rep. Yap noted the previous mistakes of PTV4 in newscasting. The most recent blunder with the network was with an aired news program for Independence day wherein, a photo of Emilio Aguinaldo was used instead of Andres Bonifacio. Rep. Yap added that there PTV4 makes other mistakes that weren’t elaborated during the questioning.
As per Kantar Media back in March 2020, ABS-CBN and GMA Network dominated the airwaves on free TV. PTV4 didn’t have any audience share as per the ratings.
Rep. Yap is one of the Congressmen who voted against the renewal of ABS-CBN’s franchise despite the lack of concrete evidence that the network violated the law. He also alleged that he was offered a bribe to vote for the franchise by entities whom he claimed were ABS-CBN emissaries. 70 Solons voted against ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal.
