Pokwang took to social media to express her gratitude to all the Kapamilya employees of Star Magic who lost their jobs after the network’s shut down.
She was crying throughout the video as she explained that she was sad for the people who lost their jobs especially at this time in the pandemic.
Her video message was posted on Instagram through Thess Gubi who is a Star Magic executive.
The post was captioned as “Mamang’s message to Star Magic family! Heartbreaking video 😌 we miss you mamang @itspokwang27”
In the said video, Pokwang thanked all the employees in Star Magic that she was able to work with. She said that they just need to be strong as she believes that the crisis ABS-CBN is facing will soon pass and the Kapamilya talents and employees will have their jobs back.
“Gusto ko magpasalamat sa inyong lahat. Salamat, maraming, maraming salamat,” she said.
“Kung anuman itong mga dagok na dumating sa atin, mawawala rin ‘yan. Kumbaga makakaahon din,” she added.
The 50-year-old comedian-host said that despite the Kapamilya network shutting down, the people should not worry because the media giant will open its doors once again. She said that people just need to be patient and await the network’s triumph.
“Hayaan niyo munang matulog ang higante dahil kapag nagising ‘yan napakalawak nang aanihing tagumpay niyan,” she said.
Pokwang mentioned that it was hard for her to make the video as she understands that those losing their jobs each have their own family to feed. As a mother, she shared the frustration of the displaced employees because she was concerned that they might not have a source of income amid the pandemic.
“Ang hirap-hirap ng ginagawa ko ‘tong ngayon video na ‘to kase para sa akin alam kong ‘yung nararamdaman lalo na ‘yung may mga may anak,” she said.
That’s why Pokwang encouraged the people to approach her if ever they are in need of help. She said she is always willing to help in any way that she can and that people should not be shy in reaching out to her.
“Gusto ko lang malaman niyo na nandito lang si Mamang kung anuman ang kailangan niyo sa akin, kung ano ang maitutulong ko, ‘wag kayong mahiyang magsabi. Hanggang kaya ko ay tutulungan ko kayo,” she explained.
At the end of her video, Pokwang thanked the Star Magic employees once again and wished them all good health since the country is still suffering from the COVID-19 pandemic. She assured them that this will not be the last time that they will see each other.
“Thank you everyone and stay safe, ‘yun ang importante, maka-survive tayo nang walang magkakasakit sa atin,” she said.
“Magkikita-kita tayo muli. I love you all,” she added.
Pokwang left ABS-CBN after being with the network for 16 years. She transferred to the TV5 network and is already working on projects there.
Pokwang said that she was grateful to ABS-CBN’s talent management arm, Star Magic, for allowing its talents to explore other opportunities outside the ABS-CBN network.
“Happy, kasi sayang yung mga talent. Maraming mahuhusay, maraming talaga namang hindi deserve na ma-stuck. Sobrang happy. Siyempre, sana magdire-diretso, magtuluy-tuloy,” Pokwang said in a digital press conference of her new show Chika, BESH!
She added that through Star Magic, she was able to grow as an artist. She said that even though she started as a comedian, she eventually learned to transition into acting thanks to the talent management arm.
“Ang pagiging ano ko, comedienne to naging nag-drama-drama na rin ako sa pelikula and teleserye, talagang kasi doon naman dinevelop kami as artista,” she explained.
Pokwang has a new show on TV5 called Chika, Besh which is a morning talk show. Her co-hosts on the said show are Pauleen Luna and Ria Atayde who is also a talent of Star Magic.
She said that it is a dream come true for her to be hosting a morning show and that she is grateful that she will be able to provide for her family through her show.
“Sobrang thankful, now nagho-host kami ng ganito. It’s a dream come true. And we’re very, very thankful na hindi lang naman para sa amin, pero para sa pamilya namin, and talagang ang laki ng naitulong,” she said.
Aside from ‘Chika, Besh!’, Pokwang also has another show in the Kapatid network with Jose Manalo called Fill in the Bank.
Pokwang started her career back when she joined the reality gag show “Clown In A Million” which was a segment of ABS-CBN’s Yes, Yes Show! in 2004. After becoming the grand champion of the reality competition, she secured an exclusive artist contract with ABS-CBN wherein she was managed by Star Magic.
