Veteran Kapamilya journalist and broadcaster denied that she was one of those retrenched from ABS-CBN following the network’s franchise denial.

Prior to the August 31 mass layoff, ABS-CBN has started informing talents and employees about the end of their employment contracts due to the non-renewal of its franchise.

Some of the big names that came out in the news as being laid off were Ces Drilon and Korina Sanchez.

However, in her recent interview with Tim Yap for the Philstar, Korina refuted the headlines saying she was not retrenched because she retired from the network for almost three years now.

“First of all I wasn’t retrenched, contrary to some of the headlines. No, I wasn’t retrenched because I was able to negotiate a really good retirement package with Mr. Gabby Lopez three years ago,” she said.

“I was able to get a really generous package three years ago, so hindi na nila ko pwedeng i-retrench kasi nakapag-retire na ako three years ago,” Korina added.

Korina also shared that she was very thankful to ABS-CBN for allowing her to continue Rated K on its Facebook page.

“On the condition of ‘Rated K’ staff, and Rated K has been number one for 15 years, we were able to amass millions of followers on our Facebook. So, I was telling Ging Reyes, the head of news, ‘O baka naman pwede mo kaming pagbigyan na sa akin na lang, I takeover the page, I finance the production of the continuation of ‘Rated K’ online do’n sa Facebook page,’ and she agreed. So now, we were able to watch ‘Rated K’ every Sunday on ‘Rated Korina’ page every Sunday,” she said.

Korina was with the Kapamilya network for more than 30 years.

She was one of the pioneering news personalities when ABS-CBN reopened after it was returned from government control.

Some of the most notable programs that she did with ABS-CBN were the public service program Hoy Gising, news programs TV Patrol and Bandila, morning talk show Morning Girls with Kris and Korina, and her magazine shows Balitang K and Rated K.

Korina also did several shows for ANC and radio commentary on DZMM.

Currently, she’s doing Rated Korina which is being shown on Facebook and she’ll be soon appearing on TV5 via Brighlight Productions’ block time agreement.
