Gary Valenciano’s wife Angeli Pangilinan defended him when his response regarding the ABS-CBN franchise issue was criticized.
Angeli said that her husband was not silent towards the network’s issue and said that the netizen who bashed Gary doesn’t know what he is talking about.
“Really? Please do more research then. @GaryValenciano1 did u see his video for the 100 congressmen&women? Do you even know what you’re saying ? If he didn’t have past sicknesses like hepatitis, near-death diabetic attacks, bypass, kidney cancer, TB,etc he would be on the streets!” Angeli said.
She mentioned that Gary has shown his support for the ABS-CBN network when he posted a video of a plea for the House of Representatives for the sake of the network’s franchise.

Gary posted the video on his official Facebook page and captioned it as: “Every once in a while I am lead in my heart to just share what comes out of it.
“Please know friends, that I understand that we may all be from different sides and therefore have different insights and opinions with regard to the issues we all face as a nation. Many of you have supported me for years on the network, and for this I will be eternally grateful. I’m posting this here to hopefully reach the honorable men and women in the House of Representatives who will make a crucial decision on Monday. And no matter what the outcome may be, I am thankful for all of you and will forever be in the service of the Filipino. May God bless us all…and may He pour upon each of you the desires of your heart.”
Angeli also said that her husband didn’t lack in his support for his home network ABS-CBN and if it weren’t for the several health issues that he’s had, she said that Gary would be out on the streets to join the rally for the sake of the network’s franchise.
It can be remembered that ABS-CBN talents and employees held a noise barrage just over a week after the House of Representatives denied the Kapamilya network a fresh 25-year franchise.
The netizen’s criticism of Gary’s lack of action came after Angeli posted on her Twitter account the doomed fate of those ABS-CBN employees who were left jobless amid the pandemic due to the network’s shutdown.
Angeli wondered if the Congressmen who voted in favor of the denial of ABS-CBN’s franchise application have a plan for the displaced employees. She wanted the Congressmen to at least have a job replacement for the thousands of employees who were retrenched after the network’s shutdown.

“I wonder if the Congressmen and women who denied the franchise renewal of ABSCBN could provide work for the ABSCBN Orchestra? They would get regular events and TV show greetings. And all the radio announcers and hosts and newscasters etc who no longer have shows.too sad. @ABSCBN,” she wrote.
Despite showing compassion and empathy for the Kapamilya employees who were displaced due to the network’s shutdown, some netizens still criticize her especially her husband Gary.
The netizen that replied, “Tell that to your husband who was silent on abs cbn issue from the beginning” particularly caught the attention of Angeli that’s why she decided to respond and defend her husband.
Meanwhile, right after the Congressional hearing on the legislative franchise of ABS-CBN, Angeli posted about how the network took care of her husband Gary Valenciano for the past 17 years. She made her post in support of the ABS-CBN network that was still fighting for its franchise bid at the time.
Angeli shared her frustration on her Twitter account where she pointed out how government officials of the House of Representatives shamed the bosses of ABS-CBN.

She added that said she could not understand the government’s decision to oppose the media network instead of focusing on the COVID-19 pandemic.

They got married on August 6, 1984, and they have 3 children namely Paolo Valenciano who is a director and the former vocalist of the band Salamin; Gabriel Valenciano who is a keyboardist, dancer, and director; and Kiana Valenciano who is a model and singer-songwriter.
