Former actress-turned-chef Aya Medel announced in a series of Facebook posts that she has been dealing with an iron deficiency anemia and has needed large amounts of blood donations.
She announced that she had gone through five blood transfusions and three operations, and was going to undergo her fourth procedure, “The cause is bleeding after giving birth to my son Simon,’Di [na] nacorrect ng medication due to my hormonal imbalance.”
“I’ve been fighting. ’Di lang halata kasi I don’t pity myself as I am happy I gave life to a precious son: now 4-year-old healthy and jolly Simon.”
She even compared herself to a factory because of how she produces so much estrogen.Her operation mid-March was canceled due to the pandemic.
“I produce too much ESTROGEN as in factory ako
kung nahaharvest nga lng to I donate ko n sa mga babae na kulang mag produce Ng estrogen. Due to pandemic my operation last mid March was cancelled coz its not safe for me to be exposed and lockdown pa. “
She also said that because of her psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, she has a compromised immune system.
“I belong to [the] ‘impaired immune system since birth’ in sort immunocompromised patients due to my psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis.”

But in her lengthy post, the actress didn’t forget to thank the people who donated blood and the medical frontliners who made sure that her surgery would be a success.
“Thank you for the doctors and nurses involved in my surgery. Please guide their minds and hands that they may work with care and skill. The Bible says that you will fight for me while I remain still, rooted in you.”
Tracking back, Aya was one of the famous daring stars in the Philippine film industry during the era of provocative movies. After that, Aya decided to take up the culinary arts under Chef Gene Gonzalez.
Aya was building her own restaurant in Tabaco, Albay.
