During a mediacon for Pokwang’s newest show “Fill in the Bank“, which she hosts with Jose Manalo, she was asked why she shifted to TV5. The comedian who is a Star Magic talent for about 15 years, turned emotional as she revealed the reason she left ABS-CBN.
She expressed gratitude for ABS-CBN which has been her home for many years and sustained the needs of her family.
“Siyempre 15 years hindi po ganu’n kadali. Ang laki po talaga ng nabago sa buhay ko and nagpapasalamat ako nang sobra sa ABS, sa mga nagtiwala sa akin at nagpapasalamat pa rin ako kasi ako po ‘yung una nilang sinabihan na wala ng kontrata at dahil ganu’n nila ako kaagang sinabihan, maaga rin akong nakapag-isip para sa pamilya ko,” she said.
She explained that she left ABS-CBN because of her family. Being a breadwinner, her family members depends on her thus, she cannot lose a source of income.
“Kasi hindi po ako puwedeng huminto, hindi ako puwedeng ngumanga marami pong umaasa sa akin, so sa isang banda hindi ko rin po dapat ikatampo ‘yun kasi maaga kong naihanda ang sarili ko, maagang naisalba ‘yung pamilya ko,” she added.
When the comedian guested on Eat Bulaga‘s Bawal Judgmental segment, she also said that as the ABS-CBN franchise renewal was rejected by Congress, she also learned that her contract with the network ended.
Before the airing of her newest show, Pokwang already confirmed her plans of leaving ABS-CBN.
Through an Instagram comment, Pokwang confirmed a netizen’s assumption of her leaving the network.
She also said that she asked permission from her bosses last year but she was not permitted.
“Yes totoo naman yan kasi last year pa ako nagpapaalam wala pang pandemic at bearing sa prangkisa, yes matagal sa akong nagpaalam pero di ako pinayagan alam ng mga boss yan! Hindi ba pwede sumuporta muna bago umalis? May mga kaibigan akong maiiwan teh!” she replied.
