Kris Aquino clarified that she has no plans of running in the 2022 elections.
The actress-host said that even though she mentioned that she wanted to become president of the Philippines on the day that divorce in the country was going to be ratified, she already gave up on that plan a long time ago.
“Hindi ako tatakbo for anything in 2022! Pero, ayoko nang pagdaanan ever again o ng kahit na sino man, ‘yung proseso ng pagpapa-annul. Kasi, puwede naman talaga ang divorce. And separation naman talaga ‘yan, eh, of church and state,” Kris said to an entertainment press through a video from Cornerstone talent management.
“I’m sorry, Catholic Church, please don’t get mad at me. For one day, I want to be President on the day na ira-ratify na magkakaroon ng divorce sa Philippines, para pirmahan,” she added.
She hoped that the members of the Catholic Church will forgive her wishes to allow for Divorce to become legal. She still wants this law for the country even though it is against the Catholic’s principle to separate a married couple as they believe marriage is a sacred bond.
The actress wanted to push the law in allowing divorce in the Philippines because she said that the process of annulment is a difficult and expensive process. She doesn’t want anyone else to struggle with the hassle of annulment as she did before.
She mentioned that “My reason is simple because you wouldn’t be annulled in the church. Your church marriage, it’s a different process, but I believe that going through an annulment is a very difficult process, and it’s expensive.”
Her interest in the family code appears to pertain to her experience with an annulment. In 2013, Aquino lamented on Twitter that she paid millions in a settlement. Though she did not directly name him, it seemed to be directed to former husband James Yap.
She also mentioned that while she supports the LGBT community, she knows samee-sex marriage is still a distant reality in the country.
“I believe that women and men should have equal rights about this. I apologize sa mga LGBT, kasi, alam kong malayong-malayo pa ang kailangan nating lakbayin bago magkaroon ng same-sex marriage. Pero ang divorce, sa sagot kong ‘yan, ha, alam n’yo na!” Kris said.
When Kris was asked about what she wanted to say for her late parents she said: “To my dad, thank you for believing that the dream could be possible. Kasi, siya talaga ‘yung naniwala that their baby could become who she is.”
“And to my mom, I’m doing this for you. Because kung merong tao talaga who matters to me, na maging proud sa akin, it’s you!”
She mentioned that her biggest regret was when she didn’t spend more time with her mother to go to church every Saturday night. She regretted that she chose to work on Saturday nights when she could have chosen not to.
“So, doon ako nagsisisi. Kasi, sana, nabigay ko ‘yun, kahit ‘yun lang, sana, nabigay ko ‘yon sa kanya,” she said.
Kris said that she had to work hard because she was a working student. She insisted on not receiving her allowances and earn money on her own. This was something that the actress was most proud of as she was able to fund her whole college education all by herself.
“Ang pinaka-proud ako is that, hindi ako umasa lang. Puwede kong sabihin talaga na, I sent myself through school. Ang buong college education ko, akong nagbayad no’n. Yes!” she said
“Kasi, I wanted to prove to my mom na nu’ng pinayagan niya ako, hindi na niya ako kailangang bigyan ng allowance. At hindi niya ako kailangan na I could be a working student,” she added.
Kris also said that she was only being impulsive with her words when she mentioned that she wanted to run for president before.
“Sa mga sinabi ko. Impulsive ako, eh. So, ngayon ako natuto na there are things that are better left unsaid. And now, I’m learning,” she said.
It can be recalled that ‘Queen of All Media’ Kris Aquino mentioned before that she is open to run for public office in 2022 if her condition and health permit.
“Common sense ha, the longer I stay unhealthy, the less likely ang 2022. Pero kung papasukin, handang handa,” Kris said.
She even cited some of her possible platforms should she push through with her political plans.
“[I have] 5 platforms personally experienced and survived: Healthcare as a patient, taxation from 32 years of honest payments, education from a mother’s perspective, the justice system & the family code (gets nyo na) and smaller scale entrepreneurship.”
Kris Aquino’s much-awaited return to showbiz is finally becoming true as she proceeds with her new talk show on TV5 ‘Love life with Kris’.
She already made a promo shoot for the teaser of her upcoming show but there were no further details so fans will just have to wait for more updates from the network’s producers. They mentioned that they will issue a press release to officially announce the date when the show will be aired.
During her promo shoot, she encountered Raffy Tulfo, host of Raffy Tulfo in Action, who decided to pay her a visit to formally welcome her to the Kapatid network.
Kris was happy with Tulfo’s gesture to welcome her and they talked for a bit while they were both in the TV5 building.
The actress noted how beautiful Tulfo’s shoes are as the broadcast journalist is known for collecting Balenciaga shoes which is a luxury brand.
Tulfo returned Kris Aquino’s compliment by saying, “Maganda ka sa personal.”
She signed a deal with Cornerstone Entertainment which ended her two-year hiatus from showbiz. She previously landed a cameo in Hollywood film Crazy Rich Asians in August 2018 as Princess Intan. She had been on a break ever since having been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria.
