Kapamilya journalist and anchor Karen Davila questioned the wisdom of the 70 congressmen who voted against the ABS-CBN franchise.

As the ABS-CBN Regional Network Group bid goodbye on their last day of their online broadcast, Karen took to Twitter to air her sentiments.

In a tweet, Karen asked if the lawmakers who voted to deny ABS-CBN’s franchise application really know that implication of what they did.

“Sa 70 congressman na bumoto para patayin ang ABSCBN… talaga po bang naiintindihan ninyo ang ginawa ninyo?”

“This will make you CRY. Ito po ang kaibahan at binigyang kahalagahan ng ABSCBN noon pa man – ang boses ng Pilipino sa bawat sulok ng Pilipinas. Nakakaiyak. Bakit hindi nakita ng 70 kongresista ang serbisyong ito sa sambayanang Pilipino?!”

On July 10, 70 congressmen voted to deny the ABS-CBN franchise after 12 grueling days of franchise hearings at the Committee on Legislative Franchises.

Most of these congressmen agreed with the committee report that ABS-CBN had violated some provisions of the constitution with regards to foreign ownership pertaining to their PDRs and owner and chairman emeritus Gabby Lopez’s citizenship, labor practices issues, and tax payment issues. This in spite of most of the government agencies and departments related to the said issues clearing ABS-CBN of existing violations in the same hearings.

In her subsequent tweets, Karen recounted her experience with the regional group and also mentioned how the regional network group helped ABS-CBN reach more Filipinos in their respective localities.

“Nakakaiyak. ABSCBN Regional. You are the heart and soul, the REACH of ABSCBN. Forever proud and honored to have worked with you. Sana po magkita tayo muli”

“My heart hurts so much. Goodbye ABSCBN Regional. A part of the Filipino life has died with us today. You were reach of ABSCBN to the nation. We love you so much.”
