ABS-CBN network’s veteran broadcast journalist Ted Failon is set to leave the network after 30 long years. ABS-CBN has already confirmed his departure and the news anchor will make his final appearance on ‘TV Patrol’ and ‘Failon Ngayon sa TeleRadyo’ on August 31.
“Multi-awarded broadcast journalist Ted Failon is leaving ABS-CBN after 30 years. He will make his final appearance on ‘TV Patrol’ and ‘Failon Ngayon sa TeleRadyo’ on August 31,” ABS-CBN said.
“The closure of ABS-CBN’s radio broadcast operations led to his painful decision and we respect it,” the company added.
The network mentioned that it commends Failon’s skills and passion as a broadcast journalist and thanked him for the many years of service to the people.
“We admire Ted’s talent, passion, and commitment to radio as his most effective medium in serving the Filipino people,” ABS-CBN said.
“He will always be a Kapamilya. We wish him well on his journey,” the network added.
Failon’s departure came after ABS-CBN was denied a new franchise and was forced to retrench some of its employees. On July 10, the members of the House committee on legislative franchises voted in favor of the network’s denial in an astonishing 70-11 vote.
Radio hosts Gerry Baja and Anthony Taberna left the network and moved to DZRH earlier this month. The tandem of Marc Logan and Vic Lima also bid goodbye to their program on ABS-CBN Teledrayo.
Ted Failon’s departure from ABS-CBN brought sadness and devastation to most of the Kapamilya news journalists and reporters whom Failon was able to work with in his 30 years with the network.
Karen Davila, who was his co-anchor in TV Patrol for 6 years expressed her good wishes for Failon wherever his career may take him. Davila praised him saying that Failon is an icon and is one of the best radio broadcasters in the industry.
“Nakasama ko si Si Ted Failon ng 6 na taon sa TVPatrol noong 2004-2010. Icon sa industriya. Isa sa pinakamagaling at pinakamalalim magkomentaryo sa radyo. Saan ka man mapunta Ted, I am praying for your success. God be with you,” Davila wrote.

Ted Failon has lived up to the slogan “Serve the People” which he so proudly wears on his shirt during his daily program Failon Ngayon. His presence in ABS-CBN will be terribly missed. https://t.co/asywvqJWq6

It has been rumored that Ted Failon is moving to the radio station of the TV5 network which is Radyo5. Expected to go with Failon is fellow radio host Czarina Balba or DJ Chacha.
However, ABS-CBN did not disclose any information regarding Failon’s switch of network and radio station.
Ted Failon is one of the news pillars of ABS-CBN’s TV Patrol along with co-anchors Noli de Castro, Karen Davila, Julius Babao, and Bernadette Sembrano.
He became one of the news anchors of Hoy Gising! (1992-2001) which is a news program that addressed the people’s complaints and broadcasted the government’s actions. He later became an executive producer for the news program as well. His co-anchors were Korina Sanchez and Gel Santos-Relos.
He served as a congressman of the 1st district of Leyte from 2001 to 2004 but he continued his passion for journalism by being a DZMM host and an anchor of ‘Good News’ which was a program in ANC.
He hosted Failon Ngayon in 2009 which is a news magazine show broadcasted by ABS-CBN but stopped its broadcasting operations recently following the cease and desist order of the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) after the network’s franchise expired.
