GMA Network employees union acknowledges ABS-CBN executives thank you letter

GMA Network’s employees’ union, TAG (Talents Association of GMA Network), has acknowledged the thank you letter sent by ABS-CBN executives Carlo Katigbak and Mark Lopez.

In a post on their Facebook page Buhay Media, TAG shared the letter sent by the two Kapamilya executives thanking them for their support for the renewal of the ABS-CBN franchise.

For their part, TAG reiterated that while ABS-CBN has persisting labor issues, the denial of its franchise is too cruel for a punishment.

“While there are many labor issues that persist in the media industry, ABS-CBN included, TAG believes closing down a network and denying it a franchise is too cruel for a punishment.”

The group also added that labor issues should be resolved by other government agencies and not by Congress.

“We believe in due process, which is addressing these labor issues not in Congress but through the National Labor Relations Commission, which we did when we filed a regularization complaint against GMA Network in 2014 (the case is now pending at the Court of Appeals).
“Tuloy ang laban para sa karapatan at ikabubuti ng mga manggagawa sa midya at ng media industry,” they added.

TAG is one of the groups that supported the ABS-CBN franchise.

During the hearing in Congress, TAG made an open letter saying it is unfair for ABS-CBN to be judged for their labor issues when GMA Network which also has labor issues filed in court got renewed without any problems.

The House committee on legislative franchise denied the ABS-CBN franchise on July 10 after 70 congressmen voted against the application.

Unfair Labor practices was one of the main allegations hurled against the Kapamilya network at the hearing.
