Director FM Reyes became emotional after he dedicated his new TV series ‘Ang Sa Iyo Ay Akin’ to the Kapamilya workers who lost their jobs due to the network’s shut down.
At the virtual media conference of the show, Reyes mentioned that the show will still push through despite the COVID-19 pandemic and that ABS-CBN will continue to provide entertainment to the Filipino through their online platforms.
“This is all happening at the height of the franchise issue and then the pandemic. And now as you’ve mentioned, kami yung magtutuloy ng laban sa digital platform,” he said.
“It’s not just for us. [It’s] for the 11,000 people who lost their jobs,” he added.
The director turned emotional during the virtual media conference of the show, thinking about ABS-CBN’s shutdown.
He thanked the press and the people who attended the conference for all the support that they’ve given to the show. He said that their support played a big part in the success of ABS-CBN when the network was still allowed to air its shows on free TV.
“I’m so sorry. I’m so thankful sa inyong lahat na um-attend dito dahil bilang miyembro ng mga press, you are our brothers and our sisters in this work, and malaki ang kinalaman ninyo sa naging success ng ABS noong umeere siya sa free TV,” Reyes said.
“And so, I would like to thank you because nandito kayo bilang mga kapatid uli para tulungan kami para ituloy yung kabuhayan namin,” he added.
He also mentioned that even though it is not easy for them to deal with ABS-CBN’s denied franchise and to air their shows on online platforms, they still plan to do their best. Their inspiration to continue is thinking that they will be able to help some of those who were displaced by the network’s shutdown.
“Hindi madali na papasanin namin lahat itong krus na ito. But, it makes it easier knowing that if we make it well in this platform, we will be helping a lot of our co-workers to again have our jobs back,” the director said.
ABS-CBN was forced to stop its broadcast operations on July 10 after lawmakers denied the network’s application for a fresh franchise. Thousands of Kapamilya workers lost their jobs due to the shutdown.
One of the stars of the TV series, Iza Calzado, mentioned how thankful she is that she was still able to continue with the show and her career despite the network’s crisis.
“The fact na nandito pa ako ngayon is something that I’m thankful for every day. Apart from this show, actually being given a green light,” the actress on the virtual media conference.
Lead star Sam Milby also answered questions regarding Catriona Gray when asked about whether the Miss Universe 2018 was ‘the one’ for him.
“May difference sa edad namin and kaka-start pa lang ng career niya so it’s early naman but I do believe she’s the one,” the actor confirmed.
The series Ang Sa Iyo Ay Akin is the first original TV series that will air on the digital platforms like Kapamilya Online Live and Kapamilya Channel on cable.
The series will premiere on Kapamilya Channel’s Primetime Bida evening block and worldwide via The Filipino Channel on August 17, 2020.
It was originally set to air on the main ABS-CBN network, but its premiere was postponed and moved to the Kapamilya Channel due to the enhanced community quarantine and the indefinite shutdown of ABS-CBN.
