Kapamilya star Bea Alonzo revealed that she is still grieving over the denied franchise of her home network, ABS-CBN.
On July 10, 2020, lawmakers voted to deny the application of the ABS-CBN forcing the network to stop its TV broadcast.
In an interview with Philstar, the actress has shared that a month after since the shutdown, she is still grieving.
Bea is still saddened that ABS-CBN is off the air now and that many of its employees were displaced amid the pandemic.
“We’re still grieving. But I believe that everything happens for a reason. This experience is teaching us something. Now is the best time to reflect and take care of one another,” Bea stated.
She mentioned that even though ABS-CBN’s shutdown was devastating, she believes that everything happens for a reason. The actress kept a positive outlook on life and decided to focus on the bright side of things.
Bea also mentioned that the network’s shutdown might be teaching the people a lesson. She said that with the shutdown, people might have the time to focus more on themselves and with helping the people around them especially since the country is still suffering from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Bea has been spending her time helping people cope with the situation by offering food and supplies to them through her charity projects and outreach activities.
She helped her fellow Kapamilya actresses Angel Locsin and Anne Curtis in their fundraising project Shop n’ Share that aims to raise funds for coronavirus mass testing in the Philippines. The said project raised its funds by allowing celebrities to sell their pre-loved items.
The project “is dedicated to help our fellow Filipinos who need to be tested during this COVID-19 pandemic” and it aims “to cover the expense for testing kits to the underprivileged who are affected by this global crisis.”
Kapamilya artists like Ogie Alcasid sold rare toy collectibles. Bea along with Vice Ganda, Liza Soberano, Karla Estrada, and Vhong Navarro donated their footwear for sale. Anne Curtis sold her Chanel bag and Angel Locsin sold her sports utility vehicle. Mark Bautista also contributed by selling his paintings that he painted himself.
Bea said that even though she helped in the Shop n’ Share project, she said that she would not take credit for it as she said that the glory and praises are all to Angel and Anne.
“Shop n’ Share was successful. But I won’t take credit for that. I just helped. Angel and Anne were the ones who really worked hard for that drive,” she said.
Bea has established her own organization I AM HOPE in an effort to help the people amid the pandemic.
“I am very focused on my organization called I AM HOPE. At first, our goal was just to help the frontliners during ECQ, but now we have transitioned into helping the underprivileged through livelihood programs and we aim to help the children with their education. We are in this for the long haul,” she shared.
Last month, Bea’s Foundation collaborated with Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto to donate disinfectants and relief goods to Pasig City.
