The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) tapped Sarah Geronimo as the newest ambassador for the 2020 Census of Population and Housing program starting September.
Geronimo’s 60-second infomercial dubbed “Sama Na, Census Na” was released to entertainment media thru a virtual presser.
She shot the audio-visual presentation shortly after a community quarantine was enforced.
According to Joseph Cajita, PSA chief statistical specialist, Sarah was their only choice as an endorser right from the start.
“From the start, siya ang gusto namin. Malakas ang hatak niya sa all sectors sa publiko at bumagay lalo siya sa aming campaign dahil sa bagong status niya bilang may asawa.”
“We are glad that she agreed to be our ambassadress for the census campaign,” Cajita added.
“Wala pong political color, affiliation or whatever dito,” Cajita reiterated. “Kailangan lang talaga natin ng bagong inventory ng ating populasyon at housing na huling nagawa nung 2010.”
“Matteo (Guidicelli, Sarah’s husband) was also considered but hindi namin nakaya due to limitations in our logistics but we are happy with Sarah,” said Cajita.
Geronimo will also sing the refrain “Sama na, census na” of the PSA official theme song composed by a PSA official and composer Florante Varona.
The campaign will be the kickoff of the 2020 census of population and housing starting September 1st with more than 100,000 census supervisors, who will conduct house-to-house data gathering nationwide to determine current socio-economic indicators.
