The daughter of Anakalusugan Partylist Rep. Mike Defensor has shared a different view from her father’s with regards to the ABS-CBN franchise.
In a tweet that was shared by Erin Tanada, Mikee Defensor said it’s unfair to assume that she shared the same opinion with her father.
She added that while she argued at home in favor of ABS-CBN, she’s not the one in Congress to cast the vote and she’s definitely not her father.
“I’ve stayed silent despite my dad ‘trending’ many times on Twitter because I understand that he is a public official and that he must be held accountable for his actions. But I think that to assume that we share the same opinion is unfair.
“I’ve had my own share of arguments and debates in my own home in order to prevent all this from happening. But at the end of the day, I’m not the one in Congress. And more importantly, I am NOT my father.”
She then shared her grief and support to the 11 thousand workers of ABS-CBN who are affected by the shutdown.
“My heart goes out to those who are greatly affected by this, most especially the 11,000 workers who have lost their jobs in the middle of a pandemic.”
Hi @mikeedefensor. Your father was my Vice-President at the National Union of Students of the Philippines (NUSP). I congratulate you for your courageous stand. You are the Mike Defensor I knew when we were marching in the streets. I hope you don’t change. #CourageOn #HoldTheLine pic.twitter.com/sT6t1MjqtC

Meanwhile, Rep. Mike Defensor in an interview with ANC said that there’s is no problem with him if her daughter backs ABS-CBN.
Defensor said he allows debate and dissent at home and among friends, even encouraging them to be involved in issues.
He said he just doesn’t want her daughter to be used as a figure portraying division in their family.
“It’s just now that I’ve been telling her na, ‘Mikee, you have to be careful because some people are using it as a narrative as if you are fighting me or they are creating a problem between father and daughter and I think we both understand that,'” he said.
“I have no problem with that. Ayoko lang siyang pumasok doon sa usapin na nagagamit siya (I just don’t want her to join issues where she is being used). She should try to avoid that because this is really—what is coming out is very dirty,” he added.
